TITLE: COORDINATOR OF CURRICULUM: Temporary 12 week position, beginning in early August

RESPONSIBLE TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF THE MONUMENT SQUARE EARLY CHILHDOOD CENTER

FUNCTIONS:

Oversees and directs the implementation of a developmentally appropriate child directed, literacy based curriculum for the Monument Square Center; communicates curriculum based information to parents. Promotes learning by all children in all classrooms, and documents outputs and outcomes. Assists with evaluation of the curriculum-related components of the program and with establishing of program goals, including QRIS. Assists with identification of problems and solutions. Responsible for curriculum components of ITERS, ECERS, and NAEYC accreditation processes. Responsible for coordinating an active, nurturing, and stimulating program in line with the philosophy and goals of Child Care of the Berkshires.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in early childhood education or related field and a minimum of two years relevant work experience with a child care center, a family child care system, or the public school. Prefer Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Knowledge and familiarity with local child care programs, human services, public schools and community resources is likewise desirable. Ability to provide leadership and to establish supportive and positive relationships with early childhood professionals and to work as member of a team. Positive attitude, understanding and commitment toward early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to process, analyze and integrate information and make appropriate decisions concerning program policies and procedures; must demonstrate good decision making skills. Must have good organizational, communication, observation and writing skills. Must be mature and in good mental health. Must participate in training and professional development. Maintains strict confidentiality concerning children, families and staff.

GENERAL DUTIES:

1. Oversees and directs the implementation of a developmentally appropriate, child-directed, literacy-based curriculum for the Monument Square Center.

2. Oversees and coordinates the implementation of the ITERS/ECERS tool with childhood staff.

3. Meets with early childhood staff during planning times.

4. Promotes learning in all children in all classrooms. Directs curriculum development, enrichment activities and specialized support services. Develops long and short term curriculum goals for the coming year.

5. Communicates curriculum goals and activities to parents, assisting with the monthly newsletter articles and parent involvement activities.

6. Plans and implements an educationally-sound early childhood program, including licensing, enrollment, staffing, supervision, curriculum planning, and reports.

7. Ensures the health, safety and welfare of the children at all times.

8. Assists with planning and facilitating staff meetings.

9. Adheres to both CCB and EEC policies and procedures.

10. Keeps abreast of issues and trends in early childhood, especially as they related to child care, childhood development, parenting education and the prevention of child abuse.
