Alderley Edge flop as Bowdon

reduce gap to 23 points

ECB Premier League leaders Alderley Edge were bowled out for 91 at Neston, suffering their second defeat of the season, while second-placed Bowdon beat Cheadle to narrow the gap to 23 points.

Neston made it 75 points from three games with an excellent all-round performance. After posting a challenging 172, Prithvi Sarvaiya scoring 44 at eight, Aaron Smillie 4-50, the Alderley batsmen were bowled out for 92 by Chris Finegan 4-43, and Sarvaiya 3-12, aided by Simon Mugava, 3-34.

Bowdon moved into closer contention by beating Cheadle by six wickets at South Downs road. Cheadle mustered only 134 (Elliott Bullock 34), former Lancashire skipper Glern Chapple taking 4-28 on a rare appearance and Richard Carter 3-25. Bowdon responding with 136-4, Simon Marshall and Pat Ashling both scoring 40.

Meanwhile, champions Hyde urged followers not to write them off with a five wickets win at Macclesfield, whom they restricted to 197-5, Craig Melrose top- scoring with 48 at eight, William Walker taking 4-45 and part-timer James Duffy 4-48. Hyde replied with 200-5, Dave Fitzsimmons 52, Duffy 32.

There was a wonderful game at Booth’s Park where Toft and Chester Boughton Hall continued the run-fest they enjoyed earlier in the season in West-Cheshire (Toft 372-6, CBH 295-6). This time a Robin Jones-less Toft ramped up 306-3, Aussie Morgan Clark scoring 129 and skipper Toby Drummond 77 in an opening stand of 165, then Clark and teenager Sam Hatcher, 81 not out added a further 115. Never known to duck any challenge Chester responded with 303-6, just falling short in the last over. Rick Moore 135 and Warren Goodwin 57 opened up with 130, then Lee Dixon added a rapid 43. Jimmy Lomas was Toft’s steadying influence in a winning draw (13 – 6 pts.) with figures of 17-0-113-4. The 609 scored in this match means the two games between the rivals this season have realised 1,276 runs for 21 wickets with 32 six hits - and two draws.

Timperley despatched Nantwich with a 68-run victory at Stockport road. Timpers hit 224-8, Ed Galley 78, Ray Doyle 3-25 then the Dabbers fell to 156 all out, Doyle 56, Nathan Brown 3-21, Jack White 3-31.

Bramhall won by six wickets at Urmston leaving the UCG men low and dry at the bottom. Highlight was a magnificent spell of bowling by Simon Wilkinson who came on when the Us were 99-0 (Aussie Adam McMaster 68) to return career- best figures of 9-26 - including the first nine batsmen These figures have been bettered only once in the Premiership, by Widnes’ Bapa Mukherjee with 10-59 v Chester in 2005.

Oulton are tops in mid-Cheshire

OULTON PARK claimed mid-Cheshire bragging rights when they decimated Weaverham in a First Division derby game at Wallerscote road.

Weaverham fell below their neighbours in the table after being bowled out for 117. Park replied with 120-0 inside 21 overs, with unbeaten half centuries from prolific openers Martyn East and Danny Leech.

Didsbury’s 11th win was by seven wickets at home to Warrington, Simon Normanton giving another fine all-round display with 35 and 5-31.

Grappenhall show no signs of being thrown off the hunt, beating Bollington by nine wickets at Broad Lane after bowling their visitors out for 73, Sam Guest enjoying the wonderful figures of 15-7-32-7. Adam Roylance hit an unbeaten 53 not out after tea.

Sale registered a winning draw at Davenham after running up 229-8, Luke McCoy 70, Brooke Guest 51, Robin Taylor 4-60. Davenham reached 177-8, Ryan Blackie 42 not out.

Marple won by eight wickets at Cheadle Hulme after dismissing their hosts for 137, Talor Williams 56, third change bowler Jack Grundy taking 6-15. Mark Makin hit a typically brisk 71 as Marple strolled home.

Tattenhall showed grit with a battling draw at Oxton, the Wirral men scored 162 batting first, Gayan Fernando 35. Tatters hung on at 127-9, thanks to number nine batsman Dave Shewring’s unbeaten 40, which kept Greg Shillinglaw, 5-28 at bay.
