CHEMISTRY SHOW: EXPLODING EGGS
To Whom It May Concern,
Our group will be doing an experiment that explodes eggs using fire and some other cool materials for the 4th and 5th grader of Cole arts and science school! Our names are Kaila, Pierce, Olivia and Walter and we go to East High School. Chemistry is all about how things react with each other and how they do it. It is a fun topic to learn about as well as do the experiments to help us understand the information. We are so excited to do this experiment for you and hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy doing chemistry
Our experiment explodes eggs and sends egg shells flying everywhere! We combine hydrochloric acid (which is in products like household cleaning supplies and help preserve certain foods) and Zinc (which helps protect some metals as well as keep us healthy). These two items when combined form hydrogen gas. Using a plastic tube the gas goes into an egg shell that has been hollowed out. We then light a match and put it under the egg which causes the egg to explode into pieces everywhere! This experiment is a physical change. A chemical reaction causes the egg to explode into many pieces when it was originally whole. Combining zinc and hydrochloric acid is a chemical reaction because it makes something new, hydrogen gas. We then let the gas that was made from combining them go into a hollow egg; which when fire is put under it, explodes! So the egg exploding is a physical change, but a chemical reaction caused it.
+ + =
You start with Hydrochloric acid You put the gas Then light fire And end
an egg And zinc make hydrogen gas in the egg under the egg with an explosion
We want to thank-you for watching and letting us do our experiment for you. It was a lot of fun for us and we hope it makes you want to learn about chemistry more. If you are interested in science, you should go to the library and pick out one of there many books about this fascinating topic. Many years later when you go to high school, we advise you to do your homework on time and enjoy learning and your time in high school. Thanks again for letting us do our experiment for you. We hope you enjoyed it and learned something about chemistry.
Best wishes,
Kaila, Pierce, Olivia and Walter
