The Catcher in the Rye

Holden’s Scrapbook Project

Due Wednesday, May 4

You’ve finished reading about Holden’s excursion through New York. On his adventure he encounters many different people and has a variety of experiences. Your job is to document those experiences as Holden shares them with you.

Like any good vacation or trip, we want to remember where we have been and what we have seen. You will create visuals of what our hero experiences and record them in a scrapbook. You may work with ONE partner, but I need to know what each of you did, so a written explanation must be handed in.

q  Pick out events, places, people, or objects from the story that are important to Holden.

q  You may use pictures, souvenirs, and artifacts that you encounter while reading the story.

q  You may use pictures from magazines, newspapers, the web, etc. They must be appropriate.

q  Your scrapbook must have at least eight items in it (12 for partners). At least two (five for partners) of the items must be something other than pictures. You may write a letter, create an obituary, make ticket stubs, etc.

q  You will also need to make an appropriate cover. Be creative. What do you think Holden’s journal or scrapbook would have on the cover?

q  You will need to explain why each item is important to the story.

On the back of each Scrapbook page you must:

1.  Identify the item

2.  Include a quote with page number that shows the importance of the item in the book (Evidence)

3.  Explain how the quote shows that the item is important to Holden (Explanation)

4.  If you are working with a partner, you must share this written aspect equally. Just divide up the work and then put your name on each part that you write.
