Description, Goals, and Outcomes:
The Grade 7 Career Education class is one of the ‘first-steps’ on the lifelong career journey. The purpose of the course is to help students identify unique interests and abilities, explore a variety of career development resources, and continue developing life/career competencies. The class is designed to help students explore a number of key questions including:
· Who am I? What are my strengths and interests?
· How do I envision my life in the future and how can I control it?
· What am I learning in my life right now that will influence my future life choices?
· What occupations are available?
· How do I make work and life decisions?
· How do I know if I am happy or satisfied with my life/work balance?
· If I am not happy with my roles in life, how can I change them?
Career Development is an ongoing process which requires family, school, and student involvement. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
(All students will develop career management competencies through an exploration of personal change and growth.) / I can recognize influences of positive/negative self image.
I can identify and showcase my skills and determine what/how I need to improve. (life, family, job, work, balance)

(All students will explore the connections between learning and work pathways and their connections to community.) / What knowledge/skills/experiences am I learning at school that will transfer to my future?
I can identify and analyze the benefits of work in relation to self and community.
Who am I? Who Could I Be?
Life/Career Planning
(All students will engage in inquiry to construct a personal work and life plan.) / What is needed to seek, maintain, create work?
I can provide examples of non-traditional occupations/stereotypes, etc.

Various self-assessment and career related resources will be used for this class including
My Life Career Pathways Textbook, Ready for Work Middle Level Resources, Destination 2020, The Real Game Online, etc.
Assessment:
The students will be engaged in a number of activities, projects, quizzes, etc. for which regular
and effective feedback will be provided.
Assessment will be based on the evaluation rubric below:
