Caradon Hockey Ladies Thirds v Falmouth 2. 7th February 2015
Match Report
Caradon thirds travelled to Penryn College to play Falmouth 2nds, the team lying top of Trelawney League Division 2. With several team members unavailable, it was up to the younger players to maintain the pace and keep the thirds in the game. New member of the team Georgia Hall stepped up to play midfield and made several excellent tackles to keep the play flowing forward. The defence of Jane Luiten, Jeni Crawshaw, Daisy Hunn and Goal keeper Lauren Bowdler were kept busy throughout the game, with eight short corners against them. Only two goals were conceded by half time as Caradon ensured the opposition were not ruling the game. Shelley Lockett, at sweeper, gave excellent support to defence and midfield maintaining pressure on the top of the league team.
After the half time pep talk, the game continued to be dominated by the Falmouth team; however, a mistake by their goal keeper leaving a loose ball still in play gave the thirds a chance. Chloe Higman and Kerryn Walsh , encouraged by Shelley Lockett, raced to pick up the ball with a shot on goal only to be thwarted at the last minute by a defender. The team welcomed the return of Joely Thomas, after a break due to injury, but even her speed and skill could just not find the back board of the goal. Jess Jones made some excellent passes and shots in the goal area, for which she was voted man of the match.
The midfield of Gemma Cliffe and Jenna Luiten continued to keep Caradon in contention, however, the game ended 4 - 0 to Falmouth.
Next week the Team will be playing Plymouth University away (a rearranged fixture due to previous cancellation through bad weather).
