This is a list of counseling services that are available in our surrounding area should you feel that you and/or your child are in need of such services. Please note that most of these services are not free, but do take health insurance and most offer a sliding fee scale.

Alfred Family and Child Services Center

Alfred University: 871 – 2229

The Child and Family Services Center is a community mental health clinic that is part of the Alfred University Counseling and School Psychology programs. It is a training clinic where we offer services to the individuals, families, and schools in the communities surrounding Alfred. Sliding fee schedule; this means that our fee is adjustable, based on several factors. This is determined by considering not only income, but family size as well. Even for those able to pay the full fee, our charges are reasonable, usually equivalent to an insurance co-payment. In general no one will be turned away simply because of an inability to pay. If you are concerned about this, please discuss it with us.

CareFirst (formerly known as Southern Tier Hospice)

A non-profit community-based program providing complete hospice, palliative care, and grief support services. Thrive Program: Must be experiencing pain and distress related to a serious illness or undergoing treatment of an advanced medical condition, and finding daily life difficult or a family member of such a person. Grief Services: Individuals suffering from the loss of a loved one. Services are free and they will come out to the school for appointments.

Family Service Society

Offers outpatient mental health services in a variety of counseling settings for individuals, couples, families and extended family groups who may be affected by mental illness or are experiencing serious emotional problems. Fees vary, sliding scale, payment arrangements may be possible. Private pay.

Hornell Area Concern for Youth

Hornell Office: 324 – 0808

Provides counseling one-on-one or in groups for youth experiencing personal, interpersonal or family problems such as substance abuse, loss of a family member or friend, divorce of a parent, dealing with bullies or problems that arise as a part of school including test-taking anxiety, fear of oral examinations

or participating in classroom discussions. Services are free and they will come out to the school for appointments.

Milestone Psychiatric and Psychological Services

Provides a wide range of services; including medication management and individual/family psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults. Accepts most major insurances and can negotiate private pay fees.

Murray Deutsch, MSW

Noyes Mental Health

Noyes offers individual, group and family therapy for adults, children, and families in a friendly and open atmosphere. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder behavioral problems, stress management, anger management, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, depression and anxiety, mood disorders, marital and family problems, chronic pain and health issues. Noyes offers many approaches to treatment, including the one that's best for you or your family members: family therapy, stress management classes; play therapy, art therapy, parent-child therapy, and other methods of treatment. Accepts most insurance plans as well as Medicaid and Medicare. Clients who don't have insurance may be eligible for services at a reduced fee through the Noyes Financial Assistance Program.

St. James Mercy Hospital Support Groups

SJMH Spiritual Care Office: 324 – 8153
The Evening Grief Support group meetings, "Good Grief Group," are held the second and fourth Monday of every month at 7:00pm in the Hospital Chapel, located on the ground floor. The Afternoon Grief Support Group meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 1:00pm in the McAuley Manor Chapel on the second floor. One of the Chaplains from the Spiritual Care department will facilitate the group. This free support group is also open to anyone who is struggling with feelings of loss or grief.

Individuals receiving services at the Mental Health Center are charged a fee scaled in accordance with their ability to pay. The Center accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and third party insurance. Credit cards are also accepted.
