California Gold Rush Day…
Hopefully your child has met with his/her Tent Group to plan/build their tent.
In addition, your child should be planning their Gold Rush Day clothing. We hope that our volunteers will come dressed for the diggings too!
Please remember that your child will also need something to tie to their belt to collect gold. They will need a non-breakable mug and spoon for lunch. We are trying to avoid using plastic items this day. Please make sure to mark your child’s name on all of their Gold Rush Day materials.
I will be sending you a separate updated email that lists the supplies and volunteers that are still needed for Gold Rush Day. Thank you so much for the many generous donations!
LCM Used Book Sale:
Mrs. Schneider, our LCM Librarian, is organizing our annual LCM Used Book Sale. This is a great way to stock up on inexpensive books for your child/children to read during the summer months. Please consider cleaning out your book shelves and donating bags of gently used books for the sale. Our class will visit the Used Book Sale on Friday, May 31st. All books will cost $.50.
LEARNING GOALS
Language Arts: Reader’s Theater, “By the Great Horn Spoon.” My students are working in cooperative groups to perform a “scene” from the novel we just finished. They will create a backdrop for their performance and work on reading with expression.
Language Works: Volume 13. This is our last Language Works Volume of the school year. We will work on spelling words that require capital letters and words with –able/-ible endings, homophones, abbreviations, root words, and editing sentences. A final Volume Test will be given at the end of the week.
First in Math: Encourage your child to use their FIM license. This is a fun and easy way to practice multiplication facts along with other math concepts.
Writing: My students are writing a first person narrative…”The Gold Rush town, ________,was given its name because…” Students picked real Gold Rush town names and are creating fictional stories to explain how the town got its name.
Science: We will be learning about ecosystems.
P.E.: We have P.E. this year with Coach Chindlund on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please remind your child to wear athletic shoes/clothes on these days.
Library: Please remind your fourth grader to return his/her library books. This is our LAST week of library and all books need to be returned to our LCM library.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH…
Congratulations to Max Novet and Lorena Recendiz for being our Room 33 Students of the Month. I appreciate their quiet leadership in class!
