Choose a bureaucratic agency, department or bureau about which you are interested in learning. You might even be interested in choosing a bureaucratic entity related to the interest group you reported on earlier in the year.

Be sure to go to the official website to find your agency/department. http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/index.shtml

Research and write the following information for a three page report on your bureaucratic agency:

· Summarize in your own words the mission or purpose of your bureaucratic agency, and the history of its formation (i.e. year and circumstances of its founding.) This is found on the official site of the agency. (2-3 paragraphs – keep it simple.)

· Who is the bureau chief/Secretary or administrative head? Relay FIVE important facts about his/her background, experience and/or duties. How many people are in the administrative office positions?

· What is one job opportunity that is currently advertised? Briefly describe the duties of the position, and four qualifications or skills an applicant must have to apply. If applicable, what is the salary range offered?

· Summarize one recent issue or event your bureaucratic entity has dealt with, and the results of its involvement? Search a recent news/media report, or check out press releases on the agency site. Attach the article, or its URL.

· Create an informational poster on a 8X11 or legal size paper as a cover page on your report. You might want to use some digital editing to graphically represent your bureaucratic agency in pictures/words.

· Application of Bureaucracy knowledge: Write two to three paragraphs which sums up your opinion regarding two of the following subjects:

- the value of the agency you have investigated

- what Issue network or Iron Triangle with which it might be associated

- what Bureaucratic Pathologies it may be guilty of

BE SURE YOU PUT THIS REPORT IN YOUR OWN WORDS. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE.
