Fringe Benefits

· The regular fringe benefit rate is 37.34% (35.68% Workers Compensation, Group Insurance and Retirement, UI, UHI, MTX; plus Health & Welfare of $16.50/week.) Non-faculty positions also include Sick Leave Bank of 0.66%.

· Faculty Summer Salary fringe benefit rate is 2.18%, which includes workers compensation, UI, UHI, MTX.

· Post-doctoral fellow fringe is 15.26% (14.26% Workers Compensation, Group Insurance and Retirement, UI, UHI, MTX; plus Health & Welfare of $15.00/week.)

· Graduate Student fringe includes Health and Welfare of $16.50/wk. assessed to all Graduate Student appointments, a GEO Health Deferment Rate of 18.66% on academic and summer wages, and 2.18% for UI, UHI, MTX in the summer.

F.6. Equipment or Facility Rental/User Fees ($67,750)

Funds are requested for facility fees for the studies planned in Aim 1, which will be performed in the Human Magnetic Resonance Center (2nd floor, Life Science Laboratory), Center for Personalized Health Monitoring (3rd floor, Life Science Laboratory) and the Body Shop Fitness Center (1st floor, Totman Building).

Human Magnetic Resonance (MR) Center, Facility Fees ($55,000 total)

We are requesting $11,000 per year, for the magnetic resonance imaging planned for Aim 1 (one hour per visit x $550 per hour x 20 participants). This is the University of Massachusetts-Amherst internal rate for our Siemens Skyra 3T scanner.

Center for Personalized Health Monitoring, Facility Fees ($9,500 total)

Funds are requested for the skeletal muscle biopsies, whole muscle contractile function measures and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) planned for Aim 1. Over the 5 years of the study, biopsies will require $5,000 ($50 per visit x 50 participants x 2 visits), contractile function will require $1,500 ($15 per visit x 50 participants x 2 visits) and DEXA will require $3,000 ($30 per visit x 50 participants x 2 visits) for facility fees. For planning purposes, these services are distributed evenly over the 5 years, for a cost of $1,900 per year.

Body Shop Fitness Center, Facility Fees ($3,250 total)

We are requesting $3,250 total or $650 per year in facility fees for access to the appropriate exercise equipment for this study ($65 per participant x 50 participants).
