Brighouse High School is in partnership with the University of Huddersfield, Leeds, Trinity and All Saints College, Bradford College and Edge Hill College in their ITT Programme.

Roles and Responsibilities

1.  In-school training will be co-ordinated by the Assistant Headteacher. He / she will be responsible for :

~  liaising with the Higher Education (H.E.) institution and attending appropriate meetings.

~  organising in-school “professional development” programmes.

~  co-ordinating the work of the subject tutors.

~  meeting individual students one lesson a week to discuss progress, monitor schemes of work and lesson plans from a general perspective.

~  providing data and assistance with the completion of extended essays required by the University or college during their placement.

~  part of the evaluation of the observation of student teacher performance and the completion of their competence profile.

2. The subject areas will vary from year to year and a decision will be made in discussion with Heads of Departments in April/May each year. Lead staff (usually the Head of Department) will be known as “Teacher Tutors” and will be responsible for:

~  liaising with appropriate departments in H.E. and attending any relevant meetings.

~  producing appropriate timetables for the students.

~  providing suitable guidance relating to the delivery of their subject within the framework of the National Curriculum and the school.

Monitoring and Evaluation

1.  Student performance observation - by University Link Tutor, teacher tutors and the school co-ordinator.

2.  The completion of Student Profile sheets and competence statements as and when appropriate.

3.  Discussions and recording of relevant comments made by member of staff, other than those mentioned above, for instance where students have been involved in extra-curricular activities, or linked with a form for registration purposes etc.

Funding

The funding received from the University:

a.  £100 allocated to general school budget to cover any photocopying costs etc. incurred. To cover time costs of the school co-ordinator in preparation of materials, consultation periods and delivery of professional development programmes.

b.  All other funding will be devolved to those departments training students.

FURTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The school will attempt to establish a co-ordinated programme of training to meet the needs of individual students, taking into account that there may be, a mix of PGCE and B. Ed. students in the school at the same time. Due to time constraints etc., the programme will be delivered by the school co-ordinator during the weekly meeting with the students and where possible through the New Staff Induction Programme.

Apart from the programme outlined below, which aims to satisfy Criterion of the Accreditation of I.T.T., it is envisaged that students will:

-  Gain background information on the school.

-  Observe teaching in other curriculum areas / year groups than those with which they have direct contact.

-  Link with a form registration group.

-  Have opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities.

-  Join staff on general school duties.
