Fine Arts Festival: Thursday, May 9 Schedule on Page 2 of the Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardians:

If you’re a parent of a 5th and 6th grader, you already know of all the computer glitches associated with this year’s ISTEP. I am not passing the buck, but it is not the school’s fault. It appears the problem is state-wide and has been linked to CTB/McGraw-Hill, the company that makes the ISTEP. According to state testing officials… “30,000 students in Indiana lost their computer connections during testing on Monday and Tuesday mornings.” Our Tech Department, Mrs. Diane Dent, and Mr. Shirley, have been working hard to make the testing run smoothly. We had a good testing day Wednesday, so maybe the problems have been solved.

Yearbooks Are Here $14: Our PTO purchases the yearbooks from Life Touch and sells them at cost to keep the price down. The books are good except the pictures make me look a little overweight.

Tuesday, May 7, Sports Physicals After school at the high school: Memorial Sports Med will be at the High School for physicals on May 7, starting after school until they are done. Elementary students need to have an adult with them. The cost is $15.00. Any questions, please contact Mrs. Aschenbrenner RN. Save money and get the physicals for 2013-2014 over with now!

FINE ARTS FESTIVAL: On Thursday, May 9 grades 1-6 will participate in the Fine Arts Festival during their scheduled specials times. So, for grades 1-6 all students will be in the gym singing. Our Band Students in 5th and 6th grade will perform at the times listed below.

Mrs. Megan Darling, our art teacher, is now on maternity leave. She is having a girl soon. (I think). Anyway, before Megan left, she chose the best art work, drawings, and projects and has them displayed and ready to be displayed in the gym. All these art projects can be seen all day on May 9 and after school until 7:00 pm. The musical performances will only be during the day at the times listed below.

Debbie Keen was running for re-election of the vice-president's position and was voted in for another 2 years and Amanda Kurzhal was also running for re-election of the Secretary's position and was also voted back in for another 2 years. Both candidates ran unopposed. We would also like to welcome our new Teacher Rep onto the board, Mr. Tyler. Get ready for a fun year ahead, Mr. Tyler! He will be taking over the position currently occupied by Mrs. Grebe. We're sad to have Mrs. Grebe leave us, as she retires this year. She was a great asset to our team and a lot of fun to work with! Just call the office if you would like to help. Also, if you would like to donate plants (hosta or other perennials) or flowers, that would be wonderful! Just send in, with attention to M. Grebe. WEEKEND BIRTHDAYS: Happy Birthday to:

Mr. Clint Watts, Mr. Wayne Boocher, Amanda Ross, Atlanta Krom & Noah Rush

At last Saturday’s soccer game (my Granddaughter’s), I overheard the soccer dads chatting about how excited they were to get home and do yard work. Yikes! I heard words like trimmers, mowers, fertilize, planting, etc. I just can’t relate to today’s fathers. Maybe it’s my age, or maybe it’s because I’m lazy, but I don’t look forward to yard work.

In an upcoming newsletter, I hope to highlight the careers of our 6 retiring teachers! Pictures and a Bio.
