This Week- Our friends continue to amaze us with the information they are learning and sharing back with us. During snack this week we heard many friends discussing with each other if their snack was healthy or unhealthy. Many friends’ discussion included talking about their favorite foods. We loved hearing that!! Along with some great discussions, we targeted counting. Friends picked a card, identified the number and then put that many items in our grocery bags. Great counting was heard by all! We learned more about grocery stores and what makes them unique. Again, there were some great discussions about grocery store photos in the book. J

Next Week- We will continue to discuss healthy food and how it helps us grow. Along with that, we will touch briefly on Thanksgiving. It will be simple discussions centered on the idea that we are thankful for family and friends. We will do a quick review of manners (although I must say we hear lots of please and thank you’s throughout our day). J Our AM friends will use a giant paper turkey and colorful feathers to target many skills. Throughout the activity listening skills, colors/shapes, positional concepts will all be targeted by following multi-step directions (ie- put a yellow feather under the turkey). Our PM friends will brush up on their manners. As they listen to scenarios (with visuals) they will have to determine what they could say or do to make the situation better (I am sorry, please, thank you, do you need help? etc). All friends will use paper turkey’s to help figure out how tall we are. Each friend will predict how many turkeys it will take to measure them. Once we have measured them with our “turkey ruler” we will discuss if the numbers were the same or how close they were (a great prediction skill). Our art project will have our friends work on finger strength to glue cotton balls on a turkey. They will then get to choose bingo markers of different colors to help make the “feathers” colorful.

Favorite Apps

A great app for healthy food is called AwesomeEats. While playing, vocabulary, finger isolation, matching and counting are worked on while sorting healthy food. Type AwesomeEats in the search box to find. Some fun Thanksgiving apps are Hand Turkey (child presses hand on screen and makes turkey) and Mr. Turkey by Visual Works. Mr. Turkey is a simple Thanksgiving story targeting vocabulary of the holiday and pictures. Both are free. Simply type hand turkey and Mr. Turkey in the search box at the app store. Enjoy! J
