FINANCIAL REPORT 2016

After building reserves in 2014 and 2015, losses in 2016 financial year saw a return to negative reserves, driven by additional expenditure in a number of areas. The financial situation is disappointing but there is confidence that we can return to a positive situation going forward.

Membership fees were slightly down on last year, with 48 members paying fees.

WMF fees were higher than previous years due to the requirement to pay for additional course registrations which accounted for £272.

Once again public liability insurance payments were an unavoidable but essential cost, with the amount increasing slightly to £598 in 2016.

International championships cost a net £864 over the cash received from GB squad members, the driver being coaching costs and the impact of unfavourable exchange rates (something that we have had to contend with throughout the year due to the instability of the markets pre and post Brexit).

Although it incurs a sizable cost for us across the season, it was positive to see Great Britain players participating in a large number of international events. Participation in these tournaments is very important to maintain the profile of British Minigolf on the international stage and the Executive Committee will continue to look at the selection process and funding going forward to maintain our involvement while minimising the cost impact on the Association.

Domestic tournaments made a net profit of £515, with prize money being reduced slightly in 2016 without impact on the numbers taking part.

In future years, to build the reserves to an acceptable level, domestic prize money will be reviewed further, with consideration being given to ensure the number of entrants is not adversely affected, and international tournaments will be expected to break even.
