This session is an overview of the Montana Rules and Regulations that differ from Federal law and how HR practitioners who are either new to the profession or who are new to practice in Montana need to conduct the employment relations activities to comply with those rules.

BIO: James A. Nys is the President and Chief Human Resource Management Consultant for Personnel PLUS! Consulting Services, Inc. His firm specializes in Selection and Recruitment, Performance Appraisal, Personnel Policy Development, EEO/Affirmative Action, and Management Training for a wide variety of businesses throughout the inter-mountain west. He has served on several national professional leadership positions including the SHRM Legislative Action Committee, the body that represents the Human Resource profession in before Congress and Administrative Agencies; the SHRM Research Committee, an organization devoted to conducting research to identify the “best practices” in the Human resource profession and, most recently, on the SHRM special expertise committee for consulting and outsourcing. Nys has well over 30 years experience in personnel management working for the State of Montana and, since 1987 as a private consultant. Nys holds a Masters degree from the University of Montana and is certified as a “Professional in Human Resources” by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Change the attitude-People are not difficult, they are just different….learn their TANGO! This part of the session makes the Myers Briggs and DISC tests….fun! Learn about yourself and colleagues from them.

BIO: Candy Whirley specializes in breaking down barriers so that people will work better together, learn to deal with change, improve communication, and become more creative. Her interactive style includes stories and innovative activities that not only make learning fun, but bring meaning to the topic and help the participants retain and apply what they have learned. Candy has been a regular speaker for SHRM State Conferences. You may have seen her at the 2009 SHRM National Conference in New Orleans. She brings a wealth of experience from many industries including: training, retail, real-estate, customer service (certified by International Customer Service Association - ICSA), restaurant, entertainment, management, and youth ministry. Candy served on the Board and was the 2007-2008 President of the Kansas City Chapter of the National Speakers Association. She graduated Cum Laude from Missouri Western State College with a B.S. BIO: Bryan A. Peterson, Training and Development Staff Consultant Bryan Peterson has been with Associated Employers since 2007 and provides member services in the areas of organizational, business and staff development and training. Bryan specializes in professional and staff development to include: leadership and management development, personality assessments, communication, conflict management, team building, performance management, discipline and termination. Staff development training services include: customer service, train-the-trainer, respect and business etiquette. Bryan also provides member services in the area of regulatory and preventative training to include drug and alcohol testing reasonable suspicion for supervisors, harassment and discrimination prevention, and workplace violence prevention. Business and organizational member services include executive coaching. Prior to joining Associated Employers, Bryan worked in the financial institution industry and for a Fortune 500 company. Responsibilities included operational management, managing teams of up to 200 employees, master training for district-wide staff development, and district executive recruiting. Bryan has a B.S. degree in Business Administration from North Dakota State University.

This will include new leader transitions, as well as using resourceful tools to coach and develop new leaders. The presentation will also touch upon various measurement and evaluation tools such as 360 Feedback Reviews to develop and train management professionals, as well as ways to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls of using these methods.

His health strategist services include consultation and support to groups engaging in employee health management. Kirk has directed numerous clients and their programs to levels of positive returns and award recognition.
