(from Michelle Coenen, Secretary)
The meeting was opened by welcoming new members and guests.
The monthly mini was made by Ronda Reitz and won by Victoria Bata. The July monthly mini will be from Lois Pirozek.
Our presenter for the evening, Ruth Powers, donated a quilt pattern and Pam Harvey was the lucky winner.
Sue Herbst has copies of the 2009 quilt show entry form. Please keep in mind that the entry deadline is July 27th. If you are interested in the challenge quilt, packets may be purchased at Heart and Hand. Sue has also asked if any guild members would be willing to lend quilting hoops (12 to 14 inch) for the quilt show.
A few ideas for the quilt show were discussed. A display of past President’s quilts at the next quilt show was discussed. Past Presidents would display the quilts that were made for them by guild members. Also, the opportunity to pre-pay admission tickets for the quilt show was discussed.
Michele Hayden has brochures for the AQS bus trip on October 31. Cost is $65 and includes transportation, admission to the show, and supper at The Machine Shed in Des Moines. You will be responsible for your lunch while at the show. There are several food choices available. Seats are starting to fill up, and remember, there was a waiting list last year.
The raffle tickets are ready for the quilt show raffle quilt. Each guild member is asked to try to sell a minimum of ten raffle tickets.
June DeVries spoke about “Girls Night Out” that takes place the second Friday of the month at the United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Gathering usually starts around 4 p.m. and is usually finished by 10 p.m. There is a $2 fee per person donation for the use of the church.
Our presenter for the evening was Ruth Powers. Ruth held a class earlier in the day, and several guild members were able to attend. Ruth had a very extensive and impressive trunk show.
Members presented their items for show and tell, followed by shopping items from Ruth Powers.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on July 13th at the First Presbyterian Church. Our greeters will be Jeanne Biggerstaff and La Tomah Hauff. This is the guild’s bi-annual pot luck meeting. Please remember to bring your own table service.
