Homework

· Your child will have written homework Monday through Thursday. I will send it home at the beginning of the week, but please try to complete each nights on the night indicated. However, I am flexible with regard to parents’ work schedules or a busy night. Homework should be a review. Feel free to jot me a note if it is too difficult, or too much for your child. The key is to build good habits! Don’t let the weekend go by without practicing a weak skill or reading together!

· Practice writing first name each night using correct letter formation, with only an upper case letter for the first letter, the rest lower case. Move into practicing first and last name when your child has mastered his or her first name.

Websites

· Superkids (When you turn in your form, you will get an e-mail from Rowland Reading Foundation with log in information.)

· Think Central

· RAZ Kids

· (Log information will be coming home in your child’s folder)

· Visit our class website

Folders

· Please check each night (including Friday) for completed work and informational flyers. I will check each day for homework and/or notes from parents. If a note is not in the folder, I won’t see it.

Misc.

· Birthdays

§ In order for invitations to be handed out at school, they need to be for the whole class, all the boys, or all the girls

§ Birthday treats are great! We do have children with allergies. I would like them to participate as much as possible. Consider fruit, cheese or non-edible treats such as pencils. You may also send in small items, such as mini pretzels, doughnut holes or cookies. Store bought cupcakes with huge mounds of icing are too messy!

· Class parties

§ There will be parties for Halloween, the Winter Holiday Season, Valentine’s Day and the End of the Year.

§ A sign-up genius will be posted on my website for each holiday. Please be respectful of other parents and take a turn for at least one of the parties.

Parent Support (This is a team effort!)

· Reinforce skills taught during the day

· Give your child multi-step directions at home

· Help foster independence, work on tying, hanging jackets on hangers, buttoning and zipping coats, opening snack bags

· Read to your child and talk about the books

· Look at folder each night

· Communicate any concerns

· Read the library books your child brings home

Friendly Reminder

· I am unable to talk about individual children tonight.

· I will be contacting each parent individually over the next few weeks.

I look forward to working with you and your children this year! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!
