Aurora Division Ship’s Log – 2002

12 Nov 2002

This is Caleb Homer, HN, USN. I thought you would like an update about what's going on. I am currently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station North Carolina as a Hospital Corpsman. I work at Halyburton Naval Hospital at the family care clinic. I am very busy at the clinic. Some of my jobs here are fun but challenging. Some of my responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security for all my staff and the patients. I am also in charge of over one hundred computers and other electronic equipment and I take patient's vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature) and do other patient care.

One of my best jobs is being an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). I get to ride in the back of ambulances with all the lights and sirens and take care of patients. It's a real adrenaline rush.

There is a chance that I might get sent at the end of this year to work at a Naval Hospital in Cuba for a few months.

Outside of work, I am a member of the command Navy Honor Guard. I was a member of the Aurora Division Color Guard and had been the Color Guard Commander in boot camp and wanted to continue that here. I have performed for the Commanding Base Admiral of Great Lakes Naval Base, The Secretary of the Navy, Honorable Mr. Gordon England, and even for the Commander of the Australian Navy. this year the Navy celebrated its 227th Birthday. The Commanding Officer and I cut the birthday cake at the celebration on October 13th, 2002 to continue the tradition of the most senior and junior sailor. The next promotion exam is coming up in march 2003 and I plan on earning my 3rd class crow. It won't be easy.

Well, fair winds and smooth seas to all of you.

Your Shipmate, C. J. Homer, HN, USN.
