POSITION: Day Camp Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Summer Program Director

WORK TIME:

· Two weekends of Pre-Camp Training (May 31st and June 20th-22nd 2014) and nine weeks of Program Preparation and Delivery (June 23rd- August 30th, 2014) at a rate of $460/week x 9 weeks = $4,140.00

· One week unpaid vacation in July

SALARY: Hourly and weekly rate in range of $4,100.00 for total period

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Day Camp Coordinator is accountable to the Summer Program Director for the development and delivery of the Day Camp Program, including all program content, activities of assigned Day Staff, program participants and related support services necessary for the operation of this program. The Day Camp Coordinator will support a large team and therefore requires strong interpersonal skills, conflict management skills as well as organizational ability. This position calls for adaptability and an interest in supporting the Senior Staff in incorporating more of the Scouting Principles/Method into the Summer Camp Program.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist Summer Program Director in the selection of program and support services staff.

2. Assist in planning and implementation of staff training.

3. Responsible for coordinating day camp program activities, materials and staff duties.

4. Responsible for on-site supervision of assigned Day Camp Staff.

5. Schedule weekly Day Camp Staff meetings with approved agendas.

6. Provide weekly reports at staff meetings.

7. Assist in handling disciplinary concerns involving assigned staff and/or program participants.

8. Assist Summer Program Director in completing mid-term and final evaluations of Day Camp Staff.

9. Ensure that duly completed Incident Reports are forwarded to Summer Program Director.

10. Assist in Summer Camp Promotion.

11. Responsible for all equipment used for assigned Day Camp program.

12. Work with the Camp Warden with regards to equipment and supplies.

13. Assist in the set-up and take down of camp, and weekly changeover to weekend user groups.

14. Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of 21 years of age.

2. Experienced (minimum one season) in program planning and staff supervision of a similar camp setting.

3. Experienced supporting a large team of peers.

4. Current Standard First Aid/CPR.

5. Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles and Practices of Scouts Canada.

6. Demonstrated appropriate attitude, skills and knowledge for the position.

7. Proven leadership, customer service and conflict resolution skills.

8. Strong communication and human relations skills.

9. Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable Sector Check.

10. Is prepared to complete all necessary training, including additional Pre-Camp Training if deemed necessary.

11. Willing to work non-traditional hours

12. In good physical health.
