MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to apply.

· Candidates must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative BC or from previous high school GPA or 2.7 quarterly BC GPA for the two (2) previous consecutive quarters. The GPA will default to whichever is highest.

· Candidates must maintain a minimum quarterly GPA of 2.7 if hired.

· Candidates must maintain a minimum of 5 credits per quarter if hired.

· Candidates must maintain a minimum of 12 credits per quarter if hired.

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience with and awareness of issues and concerns of Black students on campus and in the community.

· Demonstrate program management and supervisory skills.

· Ability to develop and adhere to a budget and maintain records.

· Ability to communicate well with students, administrators, staff and faculty

· Publicity and promotional skills.

· Ability to plan, coordinates, implements cultural and educational programs/services.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director is responsible for the overall coordination of the Black Student Union Program, monitoring budget, coordinating programs and events, publicity, and implementing day-to-day activities. The Director is responsible to the BSU Advisory Board, the Office of Student Programs, and other constituents as a representative of the Program. The Director represents and advocates on behalf of Black Student Union Program students and Black students on the BC campus, promotes its culture and events, and furthers inclusion.

BLACK STUDENT UNION PROGRAM’S Mission:

The mission of the Black Student Union Program is to create and disseminate education, support, visibility, resources, and awareness about Latino issues to students, employees and members of the BC Community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Increase Visibility

· Actively promote the program through venues such as publicity, advertisements, and participation in BC events.

· Create and adapt programming that promotes and furthers the mission of the program. These should be appealing, relevant, and successfully drawing membership from all portions of the African American community. This can include speakers, special events, workshops, lectures, discussion groups and more.

· Establish and coordinate promotion and publicity necessary for effective programming.

Create Program Infrastructure

· Create program resources like newsletter, blog, email listserv and more.

· Work to recruit volunteers for the program.

· Work with the Advisory Board to asses and define and develop the Program.

Program Management

· Develop the annual budget for Program and submit for approval according to guidelines established by the Student Services and Activities Fee Committee.

· Participate in the hiring process of new Director (if not reapplying) to ensure continuity.

Other

· Maintain a good working relationship with ASBCC ASG, Clubs and Programs, and other agencies.

· Attend Black Student Union Program Advisory Board meetings, Student Pluralism Committee and Pluralism Steering Committee meetings in order to foster better communication, coalition, and coordination with other constituents.

· Act as representative and advocate the issues and concerns of Black students on campus and in the community.

· Maintain 10.0 hours per week.

· Attend all training sessions

DIRECTOR OF BLACK STUDENT UNION PROGRAM HIRING TIMELINE:

Timeline is tentative upon the number of applicants that meet the Minimum Qualifications and upon the number of applicants recommended by The Screening Committee.

· Application OPENS May, 1 2012

· Application ENDS May 25, 2012. Completed Applications and Required Documents must be submitted to the Student Programs, BC Main Campus room C-212 by 5:00 PM.

· Application REVIEW begins May 31 2012

· If Applicants meet the minimum qualifications, an interview will be scheduled by the Hiring Committee no later than June 4, 2012.

· The Hiring Committee may choose to hire an applicant to fill the position of Student Coordinator of Black Student Union Program.

· The Hiring Committee will notify all applicants as to the final decision of the Hiring Committee by June 4, 2012.

· The Student Coordinator of Black Student Union Program is recommended to join Student Program Leadership Retreat, Camp Casey 2012, which is June 19-22, 2012.
