Part 1: Life begins at the level of a cell. Some organisms only consist of one cell, and others are composed of multiple cells that are further organized.

“Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home
Your house is on fire and your children are gone
All except one, an that’s Little Anne
For she has crept under the warming pan.”
Nursery Rhyme c.1744
Recently, Margo observed a large number of lady beetles in her garden. It was not surprising to see lady beetles, but what was surprising was to see the vast number of lady beetles. Margo has had her garden for several years, and has never seen such a large amount of beetles. After much thought, Margo realized that this past winter the temperatures in her garden had dropped substantially. In fact, the temperatures were more than 10 degrees colder than usual for that time of the year.
Margo decided that she wanted to test her observation of colder than normal winter temperatures in Florida, and an increased number of lady beetles. To do this, Margo placed 10 pregnant lady beetles in each of two of habitats (box enclosures) with sufficient nourishment and bedding. One habitat of 10 pregnant lady beetles was placed in an area at the normal winter temperature for the area of Florida where she resides. The other habitat of 10 pregnant lady beetles was placed in a location that maintained a temperature 10 degrees below the normal winter temperature for the area of Florida where she resides. Margo hypothesized that the colder temperature would results in a larger number of lady beetle offspring.
What question was Margo asking herself and testing?
