The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) is the national association dedicated to representing the interests of Canadian hog farmers. The focus of the organization is to develop and promote policies and programs of benefit to hog producers. Members are the nine provincial hog producer associations.

Animal Health Program Officer

Ottawa, ON

The Canadian Pork Council has created a new staff position to coordinate national activities and to support its provincial member organizations in animal health. The position, located in Ottawa, will report to the CPC executive director and will collaborate with the Pork Council’s consulting veterinary practitioner.

Job Description

· Coordination and Communication

o Maintain a national animal health strategy

o Organize and moderate calls and meetings of health committees

o Provide national updates on swine diseases

o Produce quarterly reports

o Coordinate national responses on emerging issues

o Build national awareness, unity and focus on swine health

· Policy Development and National Representation

o Build national health positions on key issues

o Advocate to relevant authorities

· Surveillance

o Work with existing surveillance activities

o Provide intelligence on the systems

· Biosecurity

o Maintain and enhance national biosecurity standard

o Determine national actions to further protect biosecurity

Qualifications

· English and French fluency required

· Experience working in animal health, ideally with swine

· Excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills

· Information gathering, meeting facilitation, consensus building, project management

· Self-directed, self-motivated

· Capacity for analysis and synthesis

· Capacity to multi-task and problem-solve

· Ability to work well with groups, both focused and multidisciplinary

· Minimum undergraduate degree in animal science or related field

· Available to travel
