VOLUNTEER POSITION TITLE: Recruitment & Placement Assistant

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Coordinator of Disaster Volunteers

POSITION SUMMARY: The Recruitment & Placement Assistant ensures the Chapter is continually recruiting and placing volunteers into positions that benefit the volunteer and help meet Chapter human resource shortfalls.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS: The volunteer in this position will interact regularly with current and prospective volunteers and will represent the Red Cross in the community on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Using the Chapter Disaster Readiness Assessment and the Chapter Disaster Response Plan, identify shortfalls in volunteer human resources

· Using community resources, recruit prospective volunteers from local groups such as United Way, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and faith-based organizations

· Seek out companies and organizations to work out agreements for volunteer support

· Recruit state employees to volunteer under the state Disaster Leave Law

· Recruit existing volunteers to place them in unfilled positions

· Attend volunteer recruitment events in the community to raise awareness of Red Cross volunteer opportunities

· Interview prospective volunteers and place them in unfilled positions

· Work with Assistant Director of Emergency Services to identify and create job descriptions for new volunteer opportunities

· Conduct New Disaster Volunteer Orientations on a rotating schedule with other Staff Services volunteers

· Assist with call-downs, maintaining volunteer availability, and other Staff Services duties as assigned during large-scale disasters

APPROXIMATE TIME COMMITMENT: 2 - 4 hours per week (will increase during non-recurrent disasters)

SUPERVISION REQUIRED: After training, this position requires minimal supervision.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: The volunteer in this position should complete the following training prior to or as soon as possible after accepting this position:

· Fundamentals of Staff Services

· Preparing for & Managing a Spontaneous Volunteer Workforce

· Workforce Planning & Acquisition

· Disaster Volunteer Management Team Workshop

· Additional disaster training will help in guiding other volunteers on recommended training for their position
