CORTISONE INJECTION Date_____________

What to expect: You were injected with a cortisone derivative today. You may experience some immediate relief and/or it may take a few days for the anti-inflammatory action to start decreasing the pain you are experiencing.

On rare occasions, you may experience increased pain this evening; this is an uncommon occurrence and will usually resolve in one or two days. You may wish to put ice on the affected joint or take Tylenol if this happens. You may have facial flushing that should resolve in a day or two. If you are diabetic, you may notice a temporary increase in your blood sugar. You may wish to consider increasing your diabetic medication and/or contact your medical physician if this occurs.

To keep track of the effects of the cortisone: It is helpful to keep a log of your response to the injection. Record how you are feeling within the next hour, how you are feeling this evening, and how your joint responds over the next 2 weeks. Note any activities that influence the pain and/or your ability to move the joint. You may write your observations below.
