AFTER THE TEST ACTIVITY—CHOOSE ONE!
1. CREATIVE WRITING: Ms. Prefix Contest
· Write an additional scene/contestant for the play.
· Based on the prefix mis meaning “ill,” “mistaken,” “wrong,” “wrongly,” “incorrectly,” or simply negating.
2. ETYMOLOGY STUDY: The Divergent Factions
· Find the etymology of the names of each of the factions in the novel: Erudite, Amity, Dauntless, Abnegation, Candor.
· Explain how the history of the word lends itself to the traits of the members of each faction.
3. SPELLING BEE
· Start a study guide for the spelling bee, copying down the 8th-grade words and synonyms.
· Pay attention to word parts and origins to help you memorize.
· Class spelling bee (dependent on interest) on 11-20-14. G.A.T. sends 5-6 spellers. 8th-grade school wide contest, Dec. 5. School-wide finals: Dec. 12.
4. NONSENSE WORDS AND CONTEXT CLUES: Jabberwocky
· Read the poem and summarize.
· Choose one stanza to “teach” by specifically explaining how you came to know what those nonsense words mean, taking into consideration context clues and parts of speech.
