ADULT MEN’S BASKETBALL RULES

Official Minnesota State High School League Rules will be in effect with the following exceptions:

1. High school students & college varsity basketball players are not eligible to participate. Alexandria Technical College students are eligible.

2. Each player must play in at least 3 games to be eligible for playoffs.

3. All players MUST be signed in legibly into the scorebook. This will determine the playoff roster.

4. Six fouls are allowed per player. Personal and technical fouls will count towards disqualification of the player. Two time-outs per half, non-cumulative. One time-out per overtime period (3 minute over-time). Alternate possession rule is in effect.

5. Teams must have numbered jerseys of similar color prior to December 22. After this date individuals not wearing a similar colored jersey will not be allowed to play.

6. Abuse of school, recreational equipment, facilities or poor sportsmanship will result in suspension from at least 1 game, possibly more, as judged by the Program Director.

7. A team may start with less than 5 players, but must have 5 by the start of the second half or forfeit, unless the opponent agrees to allow the use of less than 5 players. This must be agreed upon prior to the start of the second half. Teams are allowed to protest only games in which they participate.

8. Because of tight gym scheduling, the ONLY allowable deviation from the schedule will be for inclement weather. In the event of inclement weather, announcements will be on the LAR website, also they will be put on the local radio stations (KXRA 92.3, KIKV, KSTQ, and Z99). If you are not sure of the situation, please call the Lakes Area Recreation Hotline at 320-762-3010. If announcements are not made on the local stations or the hotline, the games are “on” as scheduled. All rescheduling will be done by Lakes Area Recreation.

9. Games will be played with Running Clock (Two 20 minute halves) except for final minute of 1st half and last

3 minutes of 2nd half. (Unless a team is up by 15 points or more).

10. Lakes Area Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables. Please take care of your belongings and lock them up.

11. State Amateur Tournament representation will be based upon number of berths Alexandria is awarded. Teams are responsible for all fees charged.

12. An altercation reported by an official about a player or manager will call for a three game suspension. A second reported altercation would result in removal from further league play.

13. Only game balls will be provided.

14. All games will be played on a non-protest basis. Any protest on player eligibility must be made to Lakes Area Recreation within 24 hours of the start of the game. Any protest must be made in writing and accompanied by a $20 protest fee. If the protest upholds, your $20 fee will be refunded. If not, your fee is forfeit.

15. Players will sit out for TWO Minutes for any unsportsman technical foul, two unsportsman like technical fouls in one game will result in removal from the game, plus a one game suspension, three unsportsman like technical fouls during the season will result in the removal from the game, a one game suspension, plus a $20 reinstatement fee to return to league play. Four unsportsman like technical fouls will result in a twelve-month suspension. Technical fouls will not be shot. Teams will automatically be awarded 2 points and possession of the ball. The throw-in will be administered at half-court.

16. Teams will forfeit all games played if found to have a player playing who has not paid the reinstatement fee.

17. Three free throws will be awarded to a player attempting a two point or three-point shot that is fouled in the act of shooting. A player may enter the lane on free throws after the shooter has released the ball. (During stop time in the last minute of first half and last 3 minutes of second half, if teams are in the bonus (1 and 1 at 7 fouls and 2 shots at 10 fouls) they will shot foul shots.)

18. Lakes Area Recreation has the following policy in regards to injuries: “Aggressive treatment of open wounds or skin lesions should be followed. In particular, whenever an athletics participant suffers a laceration or wound where bleeding occurs. The contest must be stopped at the earliest possible time, and the athlete must leave the field of play and may not re-enter until the bleeding has stopped and the injury is properly covered. It is highly recommended that all teams have a first aid kit of their own at their disposal.” Please notify your team of this policy, as it will be enforced.

19. All other disputes will be settled by the Lakes Area Recreation court and their decision is FINAL.

20. Players can only play on one team per night.

21. Balls landing on the top of the backboard are considered in play, anything on the backside including strap is considered out.

22. Dunking is permitted, but hanging or pulling down on the rim is cause for a technical. This is the ref’s discretion.
