The Admitting Clerk plays a huge and a very major role in a hospital in enabling health care workers to provide prompt and competent care to health care clients. A clerk basically serves as a bridge among the various medical personnel working in the hospital, such as physicians, nurses and laboratory staff. They have to ensure effective and healthy communication and collaboration among these health care personnel in order to ensure smooth, organized operations in the designated hospital area.

Duties and Responsibilities of an admitting clerk

· He or she will have to do the common clerical works such as accommodates and correlates incoming phone calls to the designated unit and then have to relay related messages accurately and clearly to the people concerned very nicely..

· He or she will have to perform the work like the patient admissions while adhering strictly to the standards set by the medical institution.

· If he or she is admitting the patients then he or she will have to ensure the accuracy and validity of the pertinent entries on the patient records sheet with the transparency.

· He or she will have to maintain a healthy communication level with the established patients and their significant others, hence will have to create a medium of open communication.

· As he or she is entering in the records then will have to watch out that the accuracy and transparency in the records are done and maintain the completeness of patients’ records.

· He or she will have to look for the patient’s information and so should make inquires and validate the information regarding the insurance of the patients.

· He or she will have to manage the secret and confidential information pertaining to the patient, either verbal or written and ensures that such information is used only for the therapeutic purposes of the client.

· He or she will have to check and ensures about the patient’s medical history and will have to obtain information on patients’ medical history and ensures the availability of patients’ previous hospital and medical records.

· He or she will have to assist the billing department in their work and will have to give the information that will help ensure the efficiency and accuracy of the billing process.

· He or she will have to be very insure that the relatives are well informed with the condition of patient and the payments should be made early in the cases such as surgery.

· He or she will have to release medical records per request of the patients and the significant others in strict adherence to the rules and regulations set by the medical institution.

· He or she will have to assist the health care personnel in their duties and in their needs as necessary.
