HUBBLE 3D
Now Showing through February 11, 2016
Through the power of IMAX® 3D, “Hubble 3D,” narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, takes moviegoers on an unprecedented voyage through distant galaxies to explore the grandeur and mystery of our celestial surroundings. Experience never-before-seen 3D flights through the farthest reaches of the universe, and accompany spacewalking astronauts on some of the most difficult and important endeavors in NASA’s history.

In May 2009, the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis launched a mission to make vital repairs and upgrades to the Hubble Space Telescope, the world’s first space-based observatory, 350 miles above the Earth. On board was an IMAX 3D camera, operated by the shuttle astronauts. It captured stunning sequences of the five intricate spacewalks required to make those repairs, as well as close-up images of the effort to grasp the orbiting telescope with the shuttle’s mechanical arm at 17,500 mph, and one unexpected problem that threatened to sabotage the entire mission.

“Hubble 3D” combines this breathtaking IMAX footage with images taken by the telescope during the nearly 20 years it has been our window into space. Through advanced computer visualization, Hubble’s detailed data becomes a series of scientifically realistic flights that unfold on screen like a guided tour of the universe, through time and space.

Narrated by three-time Academy Award® nominee Leonardo DiCaprio, “Hubble 3D” reunites the “Space Station 3D” filmmaking team led by producer and director Toni Myers. Director of photography James Neihouse also served as the astronaut crew trainer. Graeme Ferguson, IMAX co-founder and pioneer producer of many IMAX space films, is the executive producer, and Judy Carroll, the film’s associate producer. The music is composed by Micky Erbe and Maribeth Solomon.

SPACE STATION 3D
Now Showing – February 11, 2016

As astoundingly beautiful as it is technically dazzling, Space Station 3D is the first-ever IMAX 3D space film. Audiences will travel 220 miles above Earth at 17,500 mph to experience Space Station 3D - the greatest engineering feat since landing a man on the Moon.

Space Station 3D is the story of this unique partnership of 16 nations building a laboratory in outer space -- a permanent facility for the study of the effects of long-duration exposure to zero gravity and the necessary first step towards the global co-operative effort needed if man is to someday set foot on Mars. It is a story of challenges, setbacks and triumphs and ultimately, the shared international victory of men and women whose dreams exceed the limits of life on this Earth.

Space Station 3D is the first cinematic journey to the International Space Station (ISS), where audiences can experience for themselves life in zero gravity aboard the new station. Transported by the magic of the IMAX® 3D technology, the audience blasts off into space with the astronauts and cosmonauts from Florida's Kennedy Space Center and Russia's Baikonur Cosmodrome to rendezvous with their new home in orbit 220 miles above Earth.

SPECIAL EXHIBITS NOW ON DISPLAY

Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors

Now On Exhibit through January 3, 2016

Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors explores the mysteries of these celestial objects. The threat of a catastrophic impact from an asteroid or comet is a staple of popular culture. If there was a dinosaur killer in Earth’s past, is there a human killer in our future? What are the chances and how do we assess the risks? For that matter, what are asteroids, comets, and meteorites, and where do they come from? These and many other questions are answered in Great Balls of Fire. Add to your out-of-this-world adventure through the power of IMAX 3D with two spectacular space themed films: HUBBLE 3D “Hubble 3D” and “Space Station 3D” at AutoNation ® IMAX 3D Theater. This exhibit and the IMAX space films and related programs are supported by a grant from the John H. Rau Space Education Fund of Community Foundation of Broward for Beyond the Kármán Line: A Comprehensive Learning Initiative in Space Science.

· Climb into a “spaceship” and blast off to the asteroid belt and Jupiter on a mission to gather data about asteroids and comets.

· Enjoy a display of art and artifacts that tell the story of comet observations throughout human history.

· Learn the size of the average rock in a meteor shower event (it’s smaller than you think!).

· See what would happen if asteroids or comets of various sizes hit your hometown.

· Use a variety of tests (magnetism, color, density/relative weight) to determine if a rock is a meteorite (or a meteor-wrong).

· Determine if clips from Hollywood films are Science Fact or Science Fiction.

· Build your own solar system, including asteroid belts and comets.

EXHIBITS – COMING SOON

Mindbender Mansion

January 29, 2016 through May 1, 2016

Enter the wonderfully puzzling world of an exhibition that engages visitors in playful problem solving, Mindbender Mansion. The exhibit is filled with brain teasers and interactive challenges guaranteed to test the brain power and problem solving skills of even the most experienced puzzlers.

Visitors to this fun and quirky mansion are invited to join the Mindbender Society by gathering hidden clues and secret passwords scattered throughout the various thematic rooms of the house. The clues and passwords are revealed by solving select brainteasers and group challenges. Visitors are encouraged to think outside the box and collaborate with their fellow mansion guests to meet individual and group challenges, which include manipulating a tilt table, forming patterns in rolling chairs, keeping up with a conveyer belt, maneuvering a flying machine, and disco hopscotch spelling.

Math, science, and technology content are woven into the puzzles, videos, and group challenges found inside Mindbender Mansion. At the heart of the exhibit is the essential scientific task of problem solving and critical thinking. The puzzles are an excellent tool for explaining mathematical and physical science concepts. In order to solve these puzzles, visitors must identify patterns, think ahead, use logical reasoning, and look at the problems from different perspectives, setting aside preconceived ideas. The videos in each of the four Clue Vaults explain neuroscience-based principles, and tell the story of several inventors who have used problem solving skills to come up with new solutions to old problems. Additionally, the popular group challenges require communication, collaboration, leadership, and teamwork skills – skills that are critical in solving the challenges facing today’s businesses and communities.
