Bloodthirsty pirates litter the shoreline and when the Prime Minister’s daughter is kidnapped, it looks like certain war. But, out of chaos comes a shining hope; Lilly Melkun, a young girl who is not afraid to tackle crime.

Young Sherlock Holmes (Series)

Before the brilliant man, came the brilliant boy and Andrew Lane tackles this back story with exquisite gusto; it’s easy to see why this series has been backed by the Conan Doyle estate! Death Cloud, the first novel in the series, deals with a 14 year old Sherlock being removed from boarding school and sent to live with relatives in rural Surrey. True to form, it is not long before Holmes encounters many firsts: murder, kidnapping and major villainy. A perfect read for those who like to mix action with mystery.

The girls decide on the only ‘logical’ answer … he’s just not interested in girls! Join them on lessons of life, love and mistakes.

Seven Sorcerers

Wednesdays have always been a particularly awful day for Nin, so when disaster comes calling it’s only reasonable that it would fall on a Wednesday right? Disaster’s name is Skeriddge and he’s the best bogeyman in the business. Join Nin on her mission to rescue her brother from the clutches of Skeriddge in another land called ‘the Drift.’ Destined to be a children’s classic, this is one not to be missed!

Eragon: Book one (The Inheritance cycle)

Eragon is written beautifully and will transport you in to a world of magic, elves, monsters and of course, dragons. It is the story of an ordinary boy whose life changes forever when he discovers a shiny rock whilst hunting in a mountainous and dangerous area. The stone is in fact a dragon’s egg and when it hatches in the boy’s company it makes him the first dragon rider in many generations. This is a fantastical trilogy which whilst slightly complex, will delight all ages and abilities.

His Dark Materials (Trilogy)

"Without this child, we shall all die."

Already a classic, this is an outstanding fantasy trilogy that shouldn’t be missed from any recommended reading list. Be swept along with Lyra Belacqua from the dreaming spires of Oxford to the frozen white lands of the Arctic. Witches, parallels worlds and funny daemons, what more could you possibly need from a novel?

Malice

Everyone’s heard of it… but nobody’s read it. MALICE is a secret comic about a strange and awful world overseen by a tyrannical master and if the rumours are true, the children in the comic are real. The mixture of comic and prose prove to be an unusual treat and one that works really well. I highly recommend it!

The Summoning

One of you has been possessed but you don’t know who it is. Could it be your sister, your best friend, the school geek or even you? E.E Richardson has given us one of the spookiest young adult novels I’ve encountered for a long time.

With the knowledge that his grandfather collects objects from the occult, Justin seizes his opportunity to ‘borrow’ a spell book whilst he is away. Things take a sinister turn after Justin and his friends invoke a malicious spirit with terrifying consequences. This is a very unsettling book but a great one!
