We are currently seeking applications for:

Solicitor (Legal Officer) – Criminal Unit ; Kalgoorlie Office

Salary Range : $ 60,661 ( Grade 5 ) - $89,547 (G rade 7 ) depending on skills and experience , plus superannuation, access to salary packaging .

Employment Basis: Fixed Term Contract

The Aboriginal Legal Service WA (ALSWA) is the major legal aid service provider to the Aboriginal community in Western Australia. ALSWA has 14 offices across regional WA and is committed to providing high quality representation and assistance to its clients. ALSWA practices in the areas of criminal, civil and family law, as well as law reform and community legal education.

ALSWA has a position available for a criminal lawyer in its Kalgoorlie office.

Work Related Requirements:

To be considered for the position you will need to be an experienced solicitor, with a current WA Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one prior to commencement of employment, with some criminal law and advocacy experience. You will be appearing as an advocate on an almost daily basis in the Magistrates and Children’s Courts and when needed, in the District Court. You will also regularly attend circuit Courts in the areas surrounding Kalgoorlie. The position will ideally suit lawyers who are team players seeking to fast track their criminal advocacy experience. The office is also staffed by a managing lawyer and an Aboriginal court officer as well as secretarial support. This position may also require some weekend Court appearances on a roster basis. It is essential that you hold or are eligible to hold a current Western Australian driver’s licence.
