AP Psychology Summer Reading Parental Consent

Mr. Lister

2016-2017

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Your student has enrolled in AP Psychology for the 2016-2017 school year. They should have brought home this paper along with the description sheet of the assignment itself. It is of critical importance that the students complete this summer assignment to give them a solid base of understanding for the course. The more knowledge they enter the year with, the more material we will get to cover for the AP exam in May.

After spending the last year looking through material, I found what I consider to be one of the best introductory books into psychology. Forty Studies That Changed Psychology is designed to give students good footing into the world of psychology. I am aware that many students are taking other AP courses that require summer work. I also fully believe in students being able to enjoy their summer, so I tried to limit the assignment. The book is not too terribly long and the students are required to pick 10 out of the 40 total studies to write about. Realistically, the summer assignment can be completed in a week, more likely a few days with some effort. The assignment should be completed and ready to turn in on the first day of class. This will give me optimal time to grade this assignment and record it on the first 6 weeks.

Parental support on summer work is very beneficial, and while not necessary, reading along and discussing with your student may provide even greater benefit.

By signing and returning this form you are giving your student permission to read Forty Studies That Changed Psychology and complete the assignment that goes with it. Please return by Thursday, May 26th.
