THE NECESSITY OF VOTING On Tuesday, November 8th, it is most likely that either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be elected the next President of the United States. For many reasons, a number of our parishioners have decided that they cannot vote for either candidate. I can understand this. Considering the flaws of both can be troubling and paralyzing. Both candidates have serious character flaws and neither party’s platform is completely Catholic. However, once again, one of the two candidates will be elected to serve for four years as our President. It is necessary for each of us to help the better candidate and platform to be elected. In charity and justice, we must vote for the sake of our nation, the world and for ourselves. We have a serious obligation to vote.

ABORTION AND THE UPCOMING ELECTION Abortion is always a serious evil. It is never an acceptable option. It is always the taking of an innocent human life. Abortion is the killing of a baby in the womb of the mother.

Before going any further, I must encourage any of our people who have had a part in an abortion to remember that God loves you. Always has and always will! No matter the sin in which any of us has ever engaged, God, our Father, is always ready to forgive. Jesus, his Son, is waiting for us in the Sacrament of Confession when we are ready to fully repent of our sins. He is ready to offer us forgiveness and healing and the peace for which we long.

Again, abortion is always a serious evil. It is the taking of a helpless and innocent human life. As we go to vote, we must be sure that we will not be supporting a candidate who is promising to support and increase abortions. This would be seriously wrong. This would mean being complicit in the abortions of millions of innocent children. Since the Roe v. Wade decision, over 56 million young innocent lives have been tragically and horribly ended. Many mothers, fathers and grandparents have been seriously affected by their participation in abortions. Please exercise your conscience when you go to vote this November. We must let our Catholic faith guide us as we go to vote this November. We must help others to make the correct choice, too.
