A Letter to Myself

Your assignment is to write a letter to yourself, in order to note down your thoughts and predications for the upcoming school year, and how it will unfold for you.

Once you have finished the letter, it will be sealed in an envelope and only opened at the end of the school year. It will only ever be read by you, unless you’d like to share it with others. Even I won’t read it!

You are expected to write a minimum of one side of paper – typed in font 12, double-spaced. Run it through Read & Write 9 Gold for spelling errors and to hear it played back to you.

The purpose of this exercise is to get to know YOURSELVES better, your strengths and weaknesses, and how to express yourself and your thoughts. In June, you will know if your plans, predictions and expectations came true, whether they were justified, and whether you’ve changed your opinion on any of them.

Use the following checklist to help inspire you:

EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS/IDEAS/PREDICTIONS/OPIONS/FEELINGS ABOUT:

- School in general

- Northern in particular

- Special Education – your learning issues

- Classmates

- Teacher

- Classes

- Friends – old and new

- ‘Special’ friends, romances

- Extra curriculars (sports teams, clubs, plays, concerts…)

- Plans for holidays, special occasions

- Special school events

- Challenges you anticipate

- Your hopes, fears and dreams

- Your grades for each subject

- Family relationships

REMEMBER: the more detailed and honest the letter, the more you’ll get out of it at the end of the year!
