Assignment Due Date:

Friday, September 23rd, 2016

The Task

You will conduct research into a specific career in the field of geology. You will then demonstrate knowledge of what that career would be like through a creative writing piece. You can be as creative or as straight-forward as you want.

For example:

· You may represent your knowledge through a:

o short story,

o a diary entry

o a simple page from "your" daily planner/agenda (with you in the character of someone in that career)

There is no specific "# of words/pages" for this writing piece. This is about how well you demonstrate a deep understanding of that particular career in geology, rather than a lot of words, etc.

You must:

þ select a specific career in the field of geology (e.g. volcanologist, seismologist, prospector, etc.).

þ conduct research to determine what this type of career involves.

þ demonstrate knowledge of:

ð what type of data this scientist would collect;

ð how they would collect the data (e.g. types of sampling equipment, etc);

ð what type of equipment/machines they might use in a lab or the field to analyze the data/samples;

ð who you would be working with (e.g. other fields of science, industry leaders, businesses, organizations, etc.)
