2This achievement standard can be used to assess a range of physical activities. The nationally developed performance standardsand guidelines have been constructed as an appendix to this achievement standard and can be accessed at under ‘NCEA support material’. The standard must be read and applied in conjunction with this appendix.

3Applied setting requires that the physical performance skills are demonstrated in an authentic setting; such as during a game, in the appropriate environment, or in a competitive situation. An applied setting could include: tournament games or modified games, competition games, festivals or events, performance in an appropriate outdoor environment for outdoor activities/pursuits.

4A teaching programme could include more than one physical activity that may provide more than one opportunity for assessment. The student’s best performance should be used to determine the final level of achievement.

5This achievement standard could be assessed against in association with AS90741, Physical Education 3.3, where the programme for performance improvement could enhance the assessed performance.
