A regular meeting of the Campbell County Board of Education was held on Monday, June 8, 2015, 6:00 P.M. at the Alexandria Educational Center, 51 Orchard Lane, Alexandria, Kentucky.

In attendance at the meeting were:

Campbell County High School Named as One of Washington Post’s 2015 Most Challenging High Schools:

Tonight we would like to call the Board of Education forward, as well as CCHS principal, Renee Boots for a special presentation.

A Big Thank You to Thrivent Financial for their generous donation to our Helping Kids Fund.

The Northern Kentucky East Chapter of Thrivent Financial Services generously donated $1,000.00 to the Campbell County Schools’ “Helping Kids Fund”. Thrivent is a beneficial financial service organization that distributes excess income to good causes in our community. Tonight we would like to personally thank Mr. Phillip Schmidt, Financial Director for Thrivent Financial, for this incredible show of support for our Helping Kids Program.

Campbell Ridge Elementary Class Takes First Place in Pull Tab Contest

Congratulations to Mrs. Arnold's class at Campbell Ridge Elementary for taking first place in the Ronald McDonald House Charities TABulations Program. They contributed 468 pounds of pull tabs. Way to go Comets!!! The students include:

Campbell Ridge Students named State Grade Level Winners in National Handwriting Contest

Congratulations to the following Campbell Ridge students for being named a State Grade-Level Winners in the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest:

Kendall Wallace - Kindergarten

Kailey Wendel - Grade 1

Gabriella Combs - Grade 2

Ella Stahl - Grade 4

Approximately 300,000 students participated in this year's contest. As a State Grade-Level Winner, they are now eligible to compete for a Grand National Champion title.

Congratulations Culinary Camels

Congratulations to the Culinary Camels on their competition against Montgomery County High School in the KY Department of Agriculture's JR Chef Competition. They were named Regional Runners-Up

CCHS Juniors Become Stock Market Champions

Campbell County High School juniors Lydia Schneider and Hollie Turner were honored by the Kentucky Council on Economic Education on May 14 at Bellarmine University for winning the Spring 2015 Stock Market Game State Championship. Lydia and Hollie out performed 322 teams and 1,400 students from around the state to take 1st Place in the competition. Their portfolio had a growth of 13.82% above the S&P 500 during the 10 week competition with a Net Equity Gain of $14,805.92. This gain was $12,131.01 greater in value than the 2nd Place team in the state. They learned about investing and the Stock Market while enrolled in Mr. Florimonte's Retail Marketing class.

CCHS Teacher Michael Florimonte KY Jumpstart Coalition Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to CCHS teacher, Michael Florimonte, on being named the recipient of the 2015 KY Jumpstart Coalition Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year. The Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year award from the Kentucky Jumpstart Coalition honors a Kentucky teacher in grades K-12 who demonstrates an exceptional commitment to teaching financial literacy topics and motivating students to learn about personal finance. The $250 grand prize can be used for financial literacy classroom materials or to attend the national Jumpstart teacher conference.

Sophomore Accepted into the Prestigious Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science

Congratulations to CCHS 10th grader Gabrielle Witt who has been accepted into the prestigious Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science for the 2015-16 school year.

3A KHSAA State Championship Results

The CCHS boys’ and girls’ track team competed in the 3A KHSAA State Championships last month on the campus of the University of Kentucky. The girls finished as a team in 13th place, while the boys finished in 39th place.

300 Meter Hurdles: Andrew Hyden – 15th Place

3200 Meter Run: Mark Chaplin – 13th Place

Triple Jump: Andrew Hyden – 8th Place

High Jump: Matthew Mayer – 22nd Place

4×800 Meter Relay: Kayla Kavanaugh, Jennah Flairty, Gracie Florimonte, Sidney Reagor – 3rd Place

100 Meter Hurdles: Rebecca Cline – 3rd Place

100 Meter Hurdles: Brooke Buckler – 20th Place

4×200 Meter Relay: Brooke Buckler, Devan Carrigan, Rebecca Cline, Emily Orth – 12th Place

1600 Meter Run: Jennah Flairty – 6th Place

CCHS Baseball Recognized

Congratulations to CCHS Baseball Team members Robert Metz and Brady Sansom. Robert was selected as an All-Star by the Northern Kentucky Baseball Coach Association as a catcher. Brady was selected as All Conference in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference. Also, Coach Scott Schweitzer received the “Coach Connor” Coach of the Year award in the NKBCA.

CCHS Student Chosen to Attend Congress Honors Program in Boston

Congratulations to CCHS Freshman, Kaleb Ledonne, who has been chosen to attend the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston, MA June 28th-30th. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

CCMS Track Relay Sets New State Record

Congratulations to Grace Meiser, Gracie Florimonte, Kayla Kavanaugh and Tia Mounts for setting a new Kentucky State record in the 4 x 800 relay. For these four girls it was their second 4 x 800 Championship at the State competition. Last year they went into State with a personal record time of 10:48 and ran a time of 10:28 to win the State title. This year they went into State with a personal record time of 10:41 and ran a time of 10:21 to take the title and also be crowed as the State record holder. Congratulations to Coach Cody Strouse, Coach Amy Lauer and these amazing runners!

Designation of Depository/Depository Bond

15-047 Motion made by Fender, seconded by Mason, to approve the designation of The Bank of Kentucky as the depository for one year beginning July 1, 2015 per the recommendation of the Superintendent. The Bank of Kentucky pledges to guarantee collateral equal to 103% of our deposits.

School Activity Fund Projected Budgets 2015-16

15-048 Motion made by Williams, seconded by Combs, to approve the 2015-16 projected school activity fund budgets per the recommendation of the Superintendent.

Insurance Renewals

15-050 Motion by Mason, seconded by Fender, to accept the recommendation from Crawford Insurance to accept the lowest bidders of Liberty Mutual on the Package (Business Property, Liability, Fleet, Umbrella) and KEMI on Workers Compensation for a total bid of $431,526.00 per the recommendation of the Superintendent.

Approve Homeless Grant, Create Position and Approve Job Description- Homeless Coordinator

15-051 Motion made by Fender, seconded by Combs, to approve per the recommendation of the Superintendent:

1.  the Homeless Grant award in the amount of $60,000 (per year for three years);

2.  create the position of Homeless Coordinator on the existing Family Resource and Youth Service Center salary schedule; and
