90 Minute Training in your School or Setting

Making sense of autism

This one and a half hour session is designed to be delivered to staff teams within a setting who need to develop their awareness and understanding of autism. This includes teachers, teaching assistants, transport staff, lunchtime staff, senior management, governors, and service staff such as administrators.

It will support participants to:

•Identify the four key areas of difference that need to be taken into account.

•Know the importance of understanding the individual pupil and their profile of strengths and areas for development.

•Identify the key areas to help pupils on the autism spectrum build positive relationships with staff, peers, families and people in their community.

•Develop an awareness of the sensory and communication differences that pupils may experience.

This session is suitable for practitioners working with school-age pupils on the autism spectrum in both mainstream and specialist services.

Cost

Free, although we need to charge £2.50 per attendee to cover the cost of the delegate packs.

School Age Core Tier 2: Good Autism Practice : 1 Day Training

This 1 day training event has been designed to support all practitioners working directly with pupils on the autism spectrum to develop their practice.

The training will:

• Enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and understanding of good autism practice.

• Provide guidelines and activities to support practitioners to reflect on and improve their own practice.

This session is suitable for practitioners working with school-age pupils on the autism spectrum in both mainstream and specialist services.

A plethora of practical resources will be available for you to photograph so please bring a camera phone or camera. Photocopying facilities are available at Shine but there is a small cost.

Duration

One day, 9.30am – 4.00pm

Unfortunately lunch isn’t provided on the course.

School Age Tier 2 Module: Extending and Enhancing Good Practice: 1 Day Training

This one day course is designed to build on the learning developed through ‘Good

Autism Practice’ by enabling delegates to deepen their understanding of autism and the

implications for practice.

The training will:

• Enable practitioners to explore theories of autism and consider the implications for practice.

• Provide practical strategies to support practitioners as they develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of effective autism practice.

• Enable practitioners to reflect on their practice and share their enhanced knowledge more widely across their organisation

This session is suitable for practitioners working with school-age pupils on the autism spectrum in mainstream services.Practitioners in specialist settings who work with pupils with complex needs should undertake the one day complex needs module.

Duration :Full day course, 9:30am to 4:00pm.

School Age Tier 2 Module: An Introduction to the Autism Progression Framework: Half day Training

This training provides an overview of the autism progression framework which is free from the AET website.

Participants will develop:

·  An understanding of how the progression framework relates to the broader educational framework

·  Familiarity with the content and key features of the progression framework

·  Skills in identifying learning goals and measuring progress in pupils with autism in areas specific to their individual needs

·  The progression framework will give practitioners the information they need to record and report progress, prepare for planning meetings, MAP meetings, Next Steps etc

This half day program is appropriate for practitioners working with autistic pupils in either mainstream or specialist settings.

Duration: The training is for half a day, 9am-12:00pm

School Age Tier 2 Module: Complex Needs and Participation: 1 Day Training

This module will be aimed at staff working in specialist settings or in mainstream settings with very complex autistic children. The trainer will contact the setting for details about their cohort of children so that the training can be tailored to meet the setting’s needs. The expectation will be that the staff have either attended a Tier 2 core training day or have equivalent understanding of good autism practice. This is a whole day course.

School Age Tier 3 Core Training: Leading Good Autism Practice: 1 Day Training

This one day course is for staff who have a leadership role which includes responsibility for developing provision for pupils with autism within a school setting.

The training will:

·  Enhance delegates knowledge and understanding of good autism practice

·  Help delegates to question, evaluate and develop autism practice within their setting

·  Provide delegates with the tools to audit staff skills and identify training needs

·  Develop skills and knowledge to enable their organisations to meet/exceed the requirements of external reviewers such as Ofsted, and be compliant with legislative requirements

The session will bring staff with leadership roles and responsibilities, from a range of organisations together to discuss, share and develop practice and understanding. It is suitable for practitioners working in both mainstream and specialist settings.

Duration: This is a one day course, 9.30 to 4:00pm. Unfortunately lunch is not included

Points to note when completing the form:

Authorisation: Please make sure your line manager has authorised your attendance by signing the form.

Confirmation letter: Please ensure you have received an email or letter of confirmation before attending the course.

Cancellation Arrangements: If for any reason you need to cancel, you must give five working days’ notice. If you cancel without giving us five working days’ notice, you will be charged the full course cost. If you do not attend and do not cancel your booking, you will be charged the full course cost.

Purchase Orders and expenditure code: You must return a completed purchase order with the booking form.
