Target Ovarian Cancer, Angel, Islington.

Salary £23,000 pro rata

This new role will sit within our Public Affairs directorate and will be responsible for helping deliver our policy and influencing work with a particular focus on early diagnosis.

The successful candidate will work on our early diagnosis influencing activity, including supporting our GP Advisory Board and attending health events to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and the importance of diagnosing women early. They will also help provide the secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ovarian Cancer and assist in the development, promotion and analysis of social research.

In this role you will regularly talk to and meet with women with ovarian cancer, their family and bereaved relatives. While we offer support on how to approach this, it is important you have a good phone manner and are able to engage empathetically with our supporters.

This role will be based at our office in Angel, Islington.

Summary of Duties

General

  1. To ensure Target Ovarian Cancer is represented at key health conferences:
  • Booking attendance
  • Arranging shipping of materials
  • Organising speakers where needed
  • Attending events and meeting with health professionals
  • Promotion of GP toolkit
  1. To help organise bi-annual meetings of Target Ovarian Cancer’s GP Advisory Board:
  • Fixing dates
  • Booking venues
  • Organising papers
  • Drafting minutes
  1. To help provide the secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ovarian Cancer:
  • Coordinating room bookings
  • Inviting speakers
  • Inviting parliamentarians and observers
  • Arranging travel and accommodation where needed
  • Taking minutes
  1. To help launch survey research:
  • Creation of online survey response forms
  • Printing and mailing of hardcopies
  • Promotion of surveys and monitoring of uptake
  1. To provide support for our online campaigns
  2. To monitor and promote GP training modules
  3. Other related duties as required

Skills, experience and qualities required

You will be reliable, hard-working, confident and looking to gain experience in a health charity. You will have a strong interest in policy and influencing work and in developing a career in this area. Most importantly, you will be committed to working with women with ovarian cancer, ensuring all your work is informed by and, wherever possible, includes women with ovarian cancer.

Essential

  • Demonstrable interest in policy and influencing work
  • Appropriate and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Empathetic and personable - comfortable communicating with people who are recently bereaved or vulnerable
  • Experience of handling multiple projects simultaneously

Desirable

  • An understanding of the impact of cancer on women, their families and friends
  • Experience of creating surveys using Survey Monkey or similar software
  • Experience of working with parliamentarians
