8th Grade Glimpse

April 26-30

SCIENCE: Students will be working on an investigative lab activity to discover principles of electrical circuits, conductors, insulators and resistance. SCIENCE INVESTIGATION: Students have the opportunity to make corrections to improve their grade on their logbooks. They will also need to complete the display. Corrections and Display are due on MAY 10. All projects will be on display and entered in the local Science Fair on May 20.

Pre-Algebra

This group will be concentration on Chapter 9 with large emphasis on Geometry. Students will be working on Acuity also on Friday with emphasis on Algebraic Relationships, Geometry and Measurement. Thank you for your support of the mathematics curriculum.

Algebra 1

Students in this group will be concentrating on factoring and the special groups of factoring. In addition, the end of course exam will be a priority with our practice of the 2008 released form. Students will be taking the EOC exam in the media center on May 4 and 6. Thank you in advance for supporting the curriculum and encouraging our students to put forth their best effort.

8th grade RISE: Students have presented their Power Points on “Honor and Duty in the 17th and 18th Century British Navy” and are viewing episode 2 of the Horatio Hornblower series. After viewing, they will analyze the story with higher level thinking questions and writing.

8th Grade Band

-The next challenge day will be determined at a later date. Also, please don’t forget to enroll in band for next year! Even if your students’ enrollment forms have already been turned in, students can still decide to join band! Summer Band Camp will be July 26-30th afternoon/evening – this camp is required and you must have a physical completed!

*All of the Middle School Bands will be participating in a Spring Contest at Concordia High School on Saturday, May 1st. The 6th grade band will perform at 8:15am, the 7th grade band will perform at 8:45am, and the 8th grade band will perform at 9:15am. We will all leave school by bus at 7:00am and return to school between 10-10:30am. There will be a permission slip and information letter sent home on Monday. Also, the Middle School Spring Concert will be on Tuesday, May 4th (this is a correction!). All middle school band students will need to wear their blue band polo and khaki pants to these events. Both of these events are worth 200 points each and each student is expected to attend.

Health/Physical Education

The students will be able to explain how vaccinations prevent the spread of disease and explain the causes of colds and there treatment. The physical education classes will be demonstrating the ability to play an organized game of tennis and softball. The will also demonstrate their fitness level by running the mile on Monday/Tuesday next week.

Grade Vocal

Students will be preparing for the Spring Concert. The Spring Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the East gym. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Graphics I

Students in this class will evaluate multimedia presentations. They will give constructive criticism and then make any necessary changes to their own presentations according to the feedback they receive in the constructive criticism comments. They will start designing business cards once their presentations changes have been made. Textbook pages 294-295

Students continue evaluating multimedia presentations. They will give constructive criticism and then make any necessary changes to their own presentations according to the feedback they receive in the constructive criticism comments.

This class will use templates to design business cards, letterheads, and pamphlets for a new business of their choice.

Communication Arts: We are beginning our unit of study on Poetry. Our students have done a tremendous job preparing and working hard for and during the MAP test! Almost all students met 50% of their AR goal by mid-term!!! The next AR log was due Friday, April 23. Reminder: Students may correct any tests or assignments from 4th quarter to improve their grade.
