2Definitions

Company specifications are criteria set by the company related to materials, processes and practices.

Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy, procedures and practices related to activities in the workplace.

Outcome 1

Interpret company processing requirements.

Evidence requirements

1.1Processing details are interpreted from company production information.

Rangeincludes but is not limited to – batch identification, skin or hide type, number of skins or hides, processing instructions, comments, and special requirements.

1.2Production planning priorities are identified in accordance with company and customer requirements.

1.3Departures from company specifications are checked and authorised in accordance with company requirements.

1.4The completion of lead-in production processes is checked against production information and confirmed before processing commences.

Outcome 2

Set up leather embossing press machinery for operation.

Evidence requirements

2.1Safety checks meet company specifications prior to machinery start-up.

2.2Machines failing safety checks are reported in accordance with company specifications.

2.3Machinery adjustments meet company specifications for the leather type, substance, and finish required.

2.4Presses are set up and tested in accordance with leather processing requirements, production planning priorities, and company specifications.

Rangeset-up and testing includes but is not limited to – pattern, pressure, dwell time, temperature, leather substance.

2.5Set-up permits leather to be embossed within company specified tolerances for the leather type, substance, print, face, finish, and quality required.

Outcome 3

Operate embossing press machinery and emboss leather.

Evidence requirements

3.1Start-up, operation, monitoring, maintenance, shutdown, and cleaning of embossing presses meet company specifications.

3.2Leather is inspected, assessed, presented, and fed into embossing presses in accordance with company specifications.

3.3Loading and unloading of leather are coordinated with co-workers in accordance with company requirements.

3.4Embossing press machinery is adjusted to suit leather quality requirements and production priorities.

3.5Machine stoppages, blockages, and breakdowns are reported in accordance with company specifications.

3.6Leather batches are processed in accordance with production priorities and company quality and speed requirements.

3.7Processed leather meets company print, pressing, and quality tolerance specifications.

3.8Processed leather is presented, stacked, and transferred to the next stage of processing in accordance with company specifications.

3.9Process control checks and documentation are completed in accordance with company specifications.

Outcome 4

Describe the effects of incorrect leather embossing operations.

Evidence requirements

4.1The effects of incorrect leather embossing operations are described in terms of cost to a tannery.

Rangeeffects include but are not limited to – damage, requirements for rework, customer dissatisfaction, financial loss.

Outcome 5

Describe processing stages preceding and following leather embossing operations.

Rangeincludes but is not limited to – key processing steps, production outcomes, quality outcomes, effects of non-conformance.

5.1Production requirements of the preceding processing stages are described in accordance with company specifications.

5.2Production requirements of the following processing stages are described in accordance with company specifications.

Outcome 6

Demonstrate team-work.

Evidence requirements

6.1The quality and completeness of tasks meet the operational requirements of downstream co-workers.

6.2Communication and feedback are provided to and requested from co-workers to maintain and improve task and product quality.

6.3Co-workers are not endangered through the operator's methods and equipment.

6.4Assistance is provided to co-workers within the confines of product flow and operator availability.

6.5Machinery, equipment, and facility malfunctions, and product non-conformance problems are identified and reported in accordance with company requirements.

6.6Conflict resolution techniques are applied to minimise interpersonal differences with co-workers that may adversely affect team performance.

Outcome 7

Comply with company and statutory health, safety, and environment requirements.

Evidence requirements

7.1Company-supplied clothing, and hygiene and safety equipment and materials, are worn and used in accordance with company and statutory requirements.

7.2Work methods comply with company and statutory requirements to minimise the risk of ill-health and injuries to the operator and others.

7.3Unsafe and unhealthy conditions are identified and reported in accordance with company and statutory requirements.

7.4Cleanliness of equipment, operator, and work area complies with company specifications.

7.5Waste disposal meets company safety and environmental requirements.
