Dear Parent/Guardian:

Berrien Middle School, students participating in the Title I, Part A Program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.

Berrien County School System Goals:

1.  Berrien County School System will improve academic achievement of all students in order to meet national standards and increase graduation rate and post-secondary enrollment.

2.  Berrien County will develop a strong partnership with parents, the community, and other governmental agencies.

3.  Berrien County School System will provide a safe environment for students and personnel during the school day.

4.  Berrien County School System will recruit, develop, motivate, retain, and recognize high performing faculty and other personnel.

5.  Berrien County School System will provide and maintain facilities and technology that are conducive to student achievement.

Berrien Middle School Goals:

1.  By 2017, all students at BMS will meet/exceed the state averages on the GA Milestone End of Grade Assessment. BMS will provide a safe and drug free school, increase communication strategies with all stakeholders, and increase student achievement through character recognition, technology, and career clusters.

School Responsibilities:

Berrien Middle School will:

  1. Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the state’s academic content and achievement standards, state and local academic assessments, the requirements of Title I, how to monitor their student’s academic progress and how to work with school staff to improve the achievement of the student.

Parent Responsibilities:

We, as parents, will:

  1. Support their student’s learning at home by:

  3. Monitoring completion of homework
  4. Encouraging positive use of extracurricular activities
  5. Actively communicating with school staff regarding their child’s needs and circumstances
  6. Be aware of and follow the rules and regulations of the school and school district
  7. Monitor child’s progress and grades and notify teacher when concerned
  8. Communicating any problems with the teacher first before contacting administration

Student Responsibilities:

I, the student, will:

1.  Ask for help from my teacher and family when having trouble with my work

2.  Talk to my family about what I am learning in school

3.  Write down assignments, do my homework and turn it in on time

4.  Study for my tests

5.  Maintain good manners and speak respectfully to others (no bullying)

6.  Follow classroom and school rules

Please review this School-Parent compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact will be discussed with you throughout the year at different school-family events as we work together to help your child succeed in school.
