COHORT A / COHORT B

(You will choose either COHORT A or B and will have the option to select ONE of the three tours and ONE of the four workshops to attend.) / PICK A TOUR:
  • Gifted centered education:Gifted Private School walking tour! Walk over to tour the Seabury School for the Gifted Middle School Campus, debrief with Seabury head of school and staff and see how they focus on meeting the needs of gifted students in a full time, gifted student-centered school.(Free.)
  • Tacoma Architecture and Art in the Classroom Bus Tour:-sample lessons and field trip! Focus on using art and architecture in the classroom- Ride along with us through town, visiting local artwork projects, studios including the FAB LAB (where they have new tech things like 3D printers!) and Story Lab at the local library (where they work with kids to create multi-media projects), and assorted school sites; View historic architectural structures. (Tour limited to 40 participants. $5 fee for bus costs, participants will get goodie bags including lesson plan ideas and other resources from the places we visit!)
  • Creativity in the Classroom- walking tour to the Museum of Glass and Tinkertopia: Walking tour to the Museum of Glass where amazing local artists including the Hilltop Artists will also have exhibits to view. Stop by Tinkertopia, the local recycled art supply store full of amazing ideas for projects for your classroom! ($12 Museum of Glass entrance fee to be paid at the museum)

  • Administrators:Critical Conversations to Support Implementing Highly Capable Programs and Program Management. This session begins with an interactive panel discussion on program rules (bring your questions!) with Dr. Nancy Hertzog, Rachel Chung, and Kristina Johnstone and then moves to a presentation on program infrastructure presented by Charlotte Akin
  • Teachers: “Creative Problem Solving” session with activity presented by Roger Fisher
  • Admin., Teachers, Counselors: “Nature and Needs of the Gifted” presented by Jan Kragen
    (NOTE: this session is geared towards those new to the gifted field)
  • Admin., Teachers, Counselors: “Social Emotional Needs of the Gifted” presented by Lori ComallieCaplan and Marcia Holland
