The players played 9 rounds of four games each. Each individual totalled the number of games they won and the four players winning the most games went through to the finals day. It took 3 hours to play this amount of rounds and games. There was no official rest time, other than the one game that each player sat out for.

The top two players (Anthony and Dave) became one pair for finals day and the third and fourth (max and stewart) made the second pair. If any of the top four players had drawn with someone else, they would have played another round of four games as singles, to see who the winner was.

This type of “round robin” seems fairer than putting players into pairs at the beginning of the afternoon, because then your success very much depends on who you get paired with.

Parent Child Tourno 2015

Held on Sat 11th July from 2pm-5pm.

Twelve pairs of parents and children turned up.

Conveniently we divided them into three categories based on child’s age:

Ages eight and under

Ages nine to twelve

Ages thirteen to sixteen

Four pairs played in each age group, using a round robin matrix obtained off the internet. From www.printyourbrackets.com (kept copies in the folder)

I printed several in advance so I would have templates for four, five, six and seven pairs.

The eight and unders played three rounds of four games each using red and yellow balls.

The 9 - 12 year olds played three rounds of five games each using orange and yellow balls.

The thirteen to sixteen year olds played three rounds of five games each using proper balls.

We played round one for eight and unders, using two courts (first court used for warm ups).

Then we played round one for 9 – 12 year olds.

Then we played round one for 13 to 16 year olds.

Then we played round two for eight and unders

Then round two for 9 – 12 year olds

Then round two for 13 – 16 year olds

Then round three for eight and unders

Then round three for 9-12 year olds

Then round three for 13-16 year olds.

This kept it inclusive for everyone, not having to hang around for too long.

If we’d played all three rounds for one age category, the older age groups would have gone home for an hour, which wasn’t what we wanted.

Each age group took about an hour to play. We started around 2.30pm and were finished by 6pm.

We provided lots of fruit and drinks. A huge success! Plus wrote a report to paper.

Cost about £30 for trophy and medals. (one trophy and four gold, four silver and four bronze medals) plus about £20 for fruit and drinks.
