Benchmarks/Standards:

Ohio Academic Content Standards, 7th Grade

Creating (4CE) – Identify key signature of major scales.

Performing (1PR) – Independently or collaboratively, perform a varied repertoire of music, representing diverse genres and cultures and showing expression and technical accuracy at a level that includes modest ranges and change of tempo, key and meter.

Performing (2PR) – Perform accurately, independently or collaboratively, with good posture producing and appropriate tone quality.

Performing (6PR) – Read and notate melodies in treble and bass clef using key signatures.

Reflecting (4RE) – Compare and contrast the meaning of common terms and processes used in various art disciplines.

Content/Concepts/Skills:

Unit IV focuses on the students’ ability to find common characteristics in terminology across all forms of fine arts. Lessons will be focused on developing their performing abilityLessons will be focused on developing their performance techniques and start to develop and better understanding of how to read and notate melodies in both treble and bass clef which will be essential as they continue on in their musical education.

March 25-29 – Unit 4 Pre-Test

March 29 – Vocabulary/Articulation Worksheet

April 1 – Final Sight Readings Start

April 11/12 – Vocabulary/Articulation Worksheet Due

April 13 – OMEA JH Solo and Ensemble Contest

April 15-19 – Unit 4Singing Test

May 18 – OMEA JH Large Group Contest

May 20 – JH/HS Spring Concert

May 20-24 – Unit 4 Post-Test

Assessments:

Students will be assessed in a variety of ways for each unit. This unit will again focus on the completion of a vocabulary and articulation worksheet, and a singing test. Students will again sight-read the same pre-selected piece for the director they did at the start, and middle of the year. This final read will be graded. As it did in the previous units, students’ daily progress and participation during rehearsal will be a portion of their grade. All students will be given the opportunity to perform at the OMEA JH solo and ensemble contest. (not graded) All students will be also be given the opportunity to perform at the OMEA large group contest (Extra Crecit). All students will participate ina combined JH/HS spring concert (graded). We will complete the unit with a Post-Test. As always, students will receive a grade for their Pre-Test, but it will not be included in the course grade. Students will be given an end of the year final, which include elements of all 4 units.
