PRESIDENTS CALL

Compatriots,

2009 is going by very fast!

Just prior to our May chapter meeting I presented JROTC awards to cadets from Spotsylvania and MassaponaxHigh Schools at a ceremony held on May 6th at MassaponaxHigh School.

On May 25th I again had the privilege of attending the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC and watching the National SAR Color Guard. Our good friend Mike Tomme (dual member of VASSAR from Georgia) and his wife Cilla stayed with us during the time of the parade. The color guard, made up of members from about six states, did a outstanding job in representing our society.

It is not too late to get your reservation in for the June 13th luncheon. We have an outstanding program lined up with the National Sojourners presenting and talking about 13 historic flags that have played an important part in our nation’s heritage. There will also be at least one new member induction so please come out and support your chapter.

Wayne Rouse, President

In that ceremony members of the CFL chapter, Bob Bailey and Skip Nolan, participated as historic impersonators Colo. Fielding Lewis and Brigadier General George Weedon respectively. Division’s Family Readiness Group. In late February, this year, the RDVMF asked me, as Memorials Officer, to organize a presentation ceremony in Munich for the presentation of the Honored Member certificate to Ludwig Stoeckl, whose Purple Heart Jewel website now has a full history of the event, including scenes from the Hurkkamp Park 2008 event.

The Veterans Affairs Chair also announces that later this month he and members of the Falls Run Players Group will present a Reader’s Theater gig for residents of the Hunter Holmes McGuire Nursing Home’s CommunityLivingCenter patients and residents. These severely disabled veterans thoroughly enjoy the comedy and other presentations. In conjunction with the visit, donations of personal care and other items (non-alcoholic) to the patients from the CFL Chapter will be made. Please bring your donations to the June 13 luncheon or call Veterans Affairs Chair Jim Clemons at 540-368-2493 for donation arrangements.
