7TH Grade General Music

(9 weeks)

Welcome to 7th Grade General Music Explore class. We will meet everyday for a quarter during sixth hour. My name is Mrs. Temanson and I will be your teacher. I am also the high school choir director. Hopefully, you will learn some new things about music and have fun doing it. We will also do some review of things you have learned in Elementary school.

Why Do You Need to Take This Class?

Our school district decided to offer this explore to fulfill a Department of Instruction mandate. The mandate states that all middle school students will be offered a general music class. If you plan on going to tech school or college after you graduate, you must take classes in Humanities. These will either be music, art, or dance, etc. and so this class helps to give you a little background before you are off to post-high school or technical college. It is also a great way to explore all the things the middle school and high school will have to offer you in your next six years.

How Will My Grade Be Determined?

Your grade will be calculated from a percentage of scores you will earn on required work. You must come everyday ready to do your best, just like any other class. Music means different things to different people, so I ask you to keep an open mind, not use judgmental terms when talking about other peoples likes and dislikes in music, and be ready and willing to learn new things. The following list includes the things I will be expecting of you in determining your grade.

  • A good attitude - which includes listening when the teacher or other students are talking .
  • Being on time for class. (Being in your seat when the second bell rings)
  • Being prepared for class with your folder and a pencil. NO PENS PLEASE!
  • Your participation in class discussions and projects.
  • Always being respectful of Mrs. Temanson and other students.
  • Various assignments that you will be given class time to complete.
  • A music question of the week that I would like you to do with an adult. Talk to them and interview them to see what they have to say.
