7th Grade English 1st Semester Exam Study Guide2011-2012

The exam consists of 53 multiple choice questions. It will be worth 53 points in the 2ndmarking period. You will also need a #2 pencil. You will take the final during English class on January 12th. Below are the topics which will be included on the exam. Begin reviewing now. Good luck!

  1. USAGE ERRORS (1st semster list and both 6th grade lists)
  2. DOMAIN SCORING GUIDE – know what the five domains of good writing are and be aware of the elements of writing which are addressed in each domain (study the definitions in the domain scoring guide as well as the qualities of a 4 in each domain)
  3. WRITING PROCESS – be aware of activities that you do in each stage of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revision, editing, publishing)
  4. PARTS OF SPEECH – you will be asked to identify the part of speech of a word in a sentence – study your 7th grade memorization lists and Quick Guide to Parts of Speech
  5. COMMAS - know how to use comma rules 7, 8, 9, and 11from your 7th Grade English Grammar Guide
  6. RESEARCH PROCESS – be familiar with the terms relating to the research process (Works Cited or Consulted, citation, note card, paraphrase, plagiarize, slug)
  7. LITERARY TERMS – Know the terms from the front of the gold sheet
  8. 7th GRADE LITERATURE – recall the basic plots of “The Bracelet” and “The Landlady” as well as literary elements from each story: “The Bracelet” (page 63- symbolism and theme), “The Landlady” (page 220- foreshadowing and irony)
