7th Grade Activities and Assignments for Week of 9/12 – 9/16

Assignments due this week:

The initial draft of students’ news stories is due Tues., 9/13.

Page 8 of the vocabulary packet is due Wed., 9/14.

Exercise 7 in the pronouns packet is due Thurs., 9/15.

Please share the final draft of your news story with Mr. Hepp on Google Drive by Thurs., 9/15.

Please finish reading Act One of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street by Fri., 9/16 (note: we may finish reading Act One in class, which, if we do, would eliminate this homework assignment).

Daily activities this week:

Monday, 9/12

  1. Students will assemble into groups and complete Exercises 5 and 6 in the pronouns packet; then we will check answers as a whole group.
  2. Students will fill out the second column of the new set of Greek and Latin roots on p. 7 of the vocabulary packet. Then they will work on completing the third column with their groups.
  3. Homework: the initial draft of students’ news stories is due tomorrow.

Tuesday, 9/13

  1. Students will peer edit each other’s new stories and then will work on revising their initial drafts into a published form. Final drafts of news stories are due before class begins on Thursday; 2nd period students will share with Mr. Wenz, and 7th period students will share with Mr. Hepp.
  2. Homework: complete p. 8 of the vocabulary packet before class tomorrow.

Wednesday, 9/14

  1. Students will assemble into groups and check answers to p. 8. Then, as an entire class, we’ll ask students to provide words from column three on p. 7 and to provide correct answers to the exercises on p. 8.
  2. Time permitting, students will work on Exercise 7 in the pronoun packet; please complete this exercise by tomorrow.
  3. Also due tomorrow: please share the final draft of your news story with Mr. Hepp on Google Drive.

Thursday, 9/15

  1. Students will check answers to Exercise 7 in the pronouns packet (due today). Students will take a test on the information in the pronouns packet next week.
  2. Students should have already shared the final draft of their news stories with Mr. Hepp on Google Drive.
  3. Mr. Wenz will provide background information pertaining to the teleplay The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, which students will begin reading in class today.
  4. Homework: read the remainder of Act One of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street before coming to class tomorrow.

Friday, 9/16

  1. Students will discuss Act One of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street. Students will then read Act Two in class.
  2. Mr. Hepp will assign a writing assignment about the teleplay that will be due next week. Time permitting, students can start brainstorming ideas for their writing assignment in class today.
