Explanatory notes

1Definitions

Organisation refers to a specific business entity which may be – profit or non-profit; in private, public, or voluntary sectors; a business unit, iwi, or other special-purpose body.

Sponsorrefers to the process of recognising the organisational significance of an idea, helping to obtain the commitment and necessary funding for development of the innovation, and facilitating its actual implementation.

2This unit standard will be assessed on the basis of evidence of demonstrated performance in the workplace. This will call for a variety of modes of assessment and forms of evidence. Evidence is required to show consistency of performance across a range of situations and to demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skill in the principles and practices directly relating to the competent performance of outcomes and evidence requirements.

3Relevant legislation refers to any specific bylaws, acts, or statutes that may apply to the work activities within the organisation. They determine the framework in which the operations of the organisation are conducted.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Plan and sponsor an activity across organisational boundaries and structures.

Evidence requirements

1.1Viable opportunities to sponsor cross-function activities are identified and sponsored in accordance with organisational procedures.

1.2Business outcomes of the sponsorship are determined and compared against organisation’s business strategy and objectives for compatibility, within agreed time-frame.

1.3Activities are communicated in a manner that ensures that all relevant parties across the organisation are clear on their role in the activity.

1.4Cross-functional plans are designed in consultation with appropriate individuals, groups, and work areas.

1.5Cross-functional plans are clear, concise, and agreed and include agreed performance standards.

1.6Plans are complete, comply with relevant legislation, meet organisation and client needs and requirements, and include provision for contingencies.

Coordinate activities across organisational boundaries and structures.

Evidence requirements

2.1Resources required for cross-functional activity are organised and available in accordance with plan.

2.2Contingencies are identified, and remedial actions are implemented to realign plan and meet organisational and customer requirements.

2.3Allocation of work is fair, consistent, and is aligned with the competence and capability of individuals.

2.4Areas where authority and responsibility can be delegated within the activity are identified and allocated in line with organisational requirements.

2.5Designed systems to manage activity are implemented in accordance with plan, and are continuously monitored to ensure that plan milestones are being met.

2.6Plans and sponsorship activities are evaluated in terms of their ability to meet cultural and diversity requirements.

2.7Improvements to activities are identified, evaluated, documented, and implemented in accordance with established procedures and time-frames.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
