Please read it carefully with your parents and together sign and initial the form on the last page. CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR & RULES:

14.  Students are expected to follow all Miraleste and classroom policies.

15.  Students are expected to show RESPECT toward themselves and others ALWAYS.

  1. Students are expected to be polite, productive, prepared, and positive.

17.  Students are expected to be in their seat when the bell rings. Failure to be in your seat when the bell rings will result in a tardy. You are excused from your seat at the end of class when the teacher excuses you, not when the bell rings at the end of the period.

  1. During a class discussion, please raise your hand when you have a question or wish to contribute an answer
  2. Your best effort is expected on all assignments.

20.  Water bottles are permitted in the classroom; however, no gum, food or other beverages are allowed during class time. Healthy snacks are permitted during nutrition break at the beginning of third period.

Rewards: For being polite, productive, prepared, and positive you may receive reward coupons!

(Ex: bathroom passes, homework passes, sit with a friend to take notes, tardy passes)

If you choose to break a rule, you will receive an infraction. Three or more infractions per trimester will lower your citizenship grade.

GRADES:

21.  Your academic grade will be determined on a strict point basis. You will earn points on homework, projects, quizzes, in-class activities, and tests. Extra credit will occasionally be made available. Your grade will be based on the percentage of the total possible points earned.

  1. Your citizenship grade will be determined by classroom behavior, participation, and work habits. For every 3 missed assignments your citizenship grade will be lowered. Please see the citizenship rubric for a detailed explanation.

HOMEWORK, QUIZZES, AND TESTS:

23.  Homework must be neatly completed. All work should be in blue/black ink, pencil, or typed, double spaced, 12 pt. font. Work should be ready to hand in at the beginning of class.

24.  Essays or long-term assignments will drop a letter grade for each day it is late. For shorter homework assignments (under 10 points), you have one day to turn it in for HALF CREDIT. If it is more than one day late, it is worth NO CREDIT. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TURN IN YOUR LATE WORK. I WILL NOT ASK YOU FOR IT.

25.  You will be expected to do your own work! (No cheating!)

  1. You will always be notified when homework is due. Homework will be posted on Edline and on the homework board in class. It is crucial to listen to instructions to ensure you understand the homework and not rely solely on the homework board.
  2. Be sure to include the proper heading (as outlined in your Miraleste Agenda) on all work; this will ensure that you get credit for what you accomplished. If you leave your name off your paper points will be deducted from your grade.

28.  Quizzes and tests will most often occur on Wednesdays or Fridays.

29.  Usually, at least one week’s notice will be given prior to a test. A study guide will be given to help you prepare for the test.

IN CASE OF ABSENCES:

30.  If you are absent it is your responsibility to get the missed assignments and turn them in for credit.

31.  For when you are absent, have at least two study buddies’ phone numbers so that you may get any information you missed: notes, hand-outs, projects etc. You will have one day to make up work for each day that you were absent. If you are absent the day before a test, you will still be expected to take the test upon your return. Long term assignments are due on the assigned date unless other arrangements have been made with the teacher. Failure to make up a test or work within the appropriate amount of time results in a zero on that assignment

Keep All Papers: We will clean out binders in class after each unit. All assignments, whether done at home or in class, should be kept in your notebook until Mrs. Cocca instructs you to clean out your binder. You will not receive duplicate copies of assignments.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITIATE TO COME ASK ME QUESTIONS WHENEVER NECESSARY.

Technology: Our curriculum and textbook this year have many technological aspects. You will be doing many assignments at home that require the use of your computer and Internet. If at any time your computer, Internet, or printer is not working you must have a signed note from your parent or you will lose credit for the assignment. You will then be given an alternate assignment or I will provide you with a print out of the assignment. ______

Occasionally, I show movies in class that give students the opportunity to compare and contrast the civilizations we’ve studied with popular views of those civilizations. Examples of these movies include: Disney’s Mulan, Disney’s Prince of Egypt, Percy Jackson Lightning Thief, Young Indiana Jones (television series episode on Egypt), The Little Buddha, and Night at the Museum. All movies shown will either be G or PG rated.
